This isn't new, the cut in corporation tax was announced in the June budget as I stated in http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.208002-British-Game-Dev-Decries-Canadian-Vultures?page=2#7045556 and http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.242235-U-K-Government-Giving-Help-to-the-Gaming-Industry-Doesnt-Add-Up#8779061

One great thing about the Lib Dems, they don't seem to just write their policies based on what was on the front page, and even tho Lembit Opek did many things to become a laughing stock, he stood up for the UK games industry, and shot down the idiot that is Keith Vaz by simple supplying facts to counter Vaz's fearmongering.
Lembit Opek is full blown spineless amoral retard. He fiddled his expenses and now works for that well know bastion of freedom Iranian state TV. He only backed video games because he thought there were votes in it. He was wrong.
Well, in my opinion, he's not Keith Vaz, at least. I find it strange that he'd think there were votes in supporting the minority side of the debate, when usually the votes are in following the tabloid headlines.

I'm certainly not saying Opek is a model politician, just that he was one of the few speaking common sense about gaming when it's so easy to demonise them.

OK let me me get this straight you think Lembit Opek talks common sense because he pro games even though his current employer wants to stone a women to death for committing adultery. I think you ought realign your sense of prioties, gaming is far less important than working for murderous anti-semtic regime that shoots its own citizens dead for wanting a free and fair election. Talk about moral blindness. You want to know why gamers get demonised, look in the mirror.

I feel humbled over my lack of business knowledge. A 24% business tax is low?
Yeah 24% is low rate, the average for most big western economies is 28-30% (some countries run graduated corporation taxes but thats what most companies pay).

No, and I'd say you're assuming a lot about me here.

I say he was speaking common sense in the one example I gave. I did not know anything about the issues you've brought up, however, if they're true, then of course I don't support him.
He wasn't alone anyway, but I couldn't name the other supporters as they didn't have such amusingly recognisable faces.

From what I'd heard about him, he'd quit politics to attempt and largely fail a new career in stand up comedy, I'd certainly not heard of this.

However, I did not know of the things you've brought up, it's rather harsh to imply that I support all this stuff, because he said one good thing about gaming. I'm sure Josef Fritzel's neighbours didn't know about his actions, it doesn't mean they're all thinking they could use some underground home improvements.

I can understand your anger, but I came from a position of ignorance, not hate. Rarely for an internet forum, I admit it too.

Well, both the Lib Dems and the Tories were promising lots of lovely sounding ideas prior to the election...

Cut corporate tax and treble university fees. That's the Tories for you.
Exactly what Thatcher did last time. Trickle down economics don't work if the summit is wearing rain-catchers.
Couldn't have said it better myself. But remember kids, every policy they're trying to bring in to cut spending whilst raising taxes is "fair" - apparently.

Cutting the corporation tax rate could help the UK games industry a bit, along with most other industries and businesses out there. But if you really want to help that specific industry, then you would need a specific tax cut.

The most damming section is this

It is necessary for me to work. I don't see that Press TV is controversial: that is to pass judgment and it is not for one media organisation to pass judgment on another.
Ok you didn't know that he had joined press TV and you admit it thats fair enough. However next time you make a post in favour of someone just check to see that haven't become a screw up while you weren't looking.

As side note when I googled Lembit Opek press tv, the second item on the list was my post calling him a full blown spineless amoral retard. Somehow I think there is some good come out this because of that.

Strange I'd missed that, as while I don't follow much 'real' news, I do listen to the Bugle podcast, and that tends to keep me up to date with the more ridiculous parts of world politics, it's made by Andy Zaltzman and Jon Oliver (yeah the brit guy from the Daily Show), and I thoroughly recommend it. They're usually keeping me up to date on the latest crazy talk from Chavez, Ahmadinejad and other such fine world leaders.
