Umpires

This is to any person who loves their sport, and its search bar aprroved... i think.

Im watching the preliminary final of Geelong vs Collingwood right now, and some of the umpire's decisions are the stupidest things. There was a 50m penalty, which was a really weak one, which he took almost 80m so they got a goal, and when they made a blatently obvoius wrong call, which they got another goal from, and when the player goes to say, "Dude, what the hell?" to thew umpire, he just walks off saying "Nah mate, its alright", they just kicked a goal, it sint alright.

So my question is this, Are umpires ruining the game? I dont know if this applys to other sports than AFL, but Umpires make athe worst call half the time, and it ruins the game.

Also, on a side note, this is for just AFL people, are the rules getting stupid? I mean you cant rush it, anyone gets near a person back and its a free kick, yet they let so much jumper punching and swearing slide...

all sports can have their problems with umpires/referees

some are good at calling it, some are bad. Some give rediculous decisions which anyone in the back of the stadiums can see didnt happen, yet others can see everything, example would be the Adebayor (however its spelt) incident, and event so slight and so quick, yet the ref picked up on it.

From what ive seen in sports, cricket umpires tend to have the best eyes at spotting faults and giving the right decisions. Except on a few outs in the Ashes, thought Australia were quite hard done by for decisions in this series, but generally they were the right calls

These guys have my respect. There they are, normal guys in their stripey pajamas, surrounded by charging hulks with muscles the size of prizewinning melons, communicating through the magic of interpretive dance. It's one thing to run with the bulls at Pamplona; it's another thing entirely to call a fifteen-yard penalty on the bulls at Pamplona for unsportsmanlike conduct and live to tell about it. B+

Besides SOMEONE has to judge these things have you ever seen people play a pickup game without a ref/ump? Tragic.
