Ok sorry for the tec support question here but the instructions on the official website indicate files that do not seem to exist.
The problem is that I decided that I would re-install neverwinter nights with childish ignorance that perhaps I could simply use the un-install icon provided. Unfortunately the effect that had was to prevent me from both installing and playing the game. The tec support provides the most baffling instructions that give point towards folder locations that do not exist (possibly because I use vista)

So what I ask of you, clever escapist citizens, is to provide assistance in any way you can, preferably in the form of a moron-friendly instruction guide.

Try going to control panel, uninstall or add program. And find it there and use that to uninstal maybe ?

Go to start->run, type regedit then search for Neverwinter Nights registry keys and manually remove them one by one. Eventually find some registry cleaning software.

I do not understand, are you suggesting I wipe my computer? Or is a registry clean something else?

nah, there are registry entries for neverwinter still on there that are probably getting in the way of putting it back on, Ive had similar problems when I had to reformat, the best way is to find out exactly what you need to get rid of from like tech support or something but if you can find the never winter directory in the reg then just deleting it should probably fix the problem also but be careful editing the registry can do alot of damage if you take off the wrong stuff

Registry cleaners usually check for registry entries compared to actual files on your hard drive and try to remove those that arent needed anymore. Most installer programs first check the registry to find out whenever you have the game installed or not rather than scanning through your hard drive for files.
If you want to do it manually check the keys in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - > SOFTWARE and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software

Those two tend to hold the important data for game installation paths.

Thanks! With this information I will consult my technically minded brother and use his knowledge of this registry you speak of to solve the problem. Thanks again!
