Every difficulty curve graph I've ever seen has had difficulty on the y-axis (vertical) and progression on the x-axis (horizontal).
If the difficulty curve is horizontal then it never gets any harder, in the case of Mirror's Edge it never gets any harder than impossible-to-lose-in-combat.
