My dad was a lifelong gamer who passed away last year. My family has been doing some major downsizing and my mom told me to do something with the huge box of games in the basement. My dad was a huge collector who would keep the box to every game he bought. As I unbox it I'll just edit this post so I'm not repeatedly bumping the thread.
With Mass Effect 3 for comparison. And a cat because cats love boxes, even though he couldn't fit in it.
Myst, Doom, Mass Effect 3 (which I pulled out for the comparison shot), a Windows 98 installation CD and Return to Castle Wolfenstien is on top. Let's see how many still have the game in them...
Feel free to tell me what you think of the games, and which ones I should play. The collector boxes may have to go, but I can keep all the games.
2nd update:
I'm checking to make sure all the games are still in the boxes. Turns out Myst had something extra in it as well.
Yes that is a Bevis and Butthead game.
Better picture of Wolfenstien, Starfleet Command, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Fallout Tactics, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, and Sims Hot Date.
So that's where my Monster Rancher 2 manual went...
With all of those out of the way I can start on the 2nd layer.
I heard Neverwinter Nights is a fun game and he had the collectors edition, I wonder what's inside...
A nice poster, a huge artbook, and the game. Wait that says OST... The game is missing
Some of the games were missing, but seeing how they were all the military/multiplayer games I'm not sad over it.
I'd like to nickname this the nostalgia layer because these are a lot of the games I played as a kid. Including the box to my favorite childhood game Duke Nukem 3D. Not to mention Midtown Madness, MicroMachines (which I completely forgot about until I saw the box), Black and White, Quake II, and Red Alert which make me hate RTSes. I still hate them to this day because of that one game and haven't touched one since.
And the box to the Win98 disc I found earlier.
Everything in that layer was accounted for except the games I took earlier so onto the next:
That takes me back. My first computer was so crappy it couldn't even run The Sims. So I'd spend hours playing Worms Armageddon with friends. And some IPs should of stayed dead. This will always be the Dungeon Keeper I remember and love.
Now I have to figure out what I want to do with all these games.
My friend had a great idea of making a scrapbook out of the boxes so I squished all of them. I could murder someone with the manuals in some of the games. They're books.
In the end the only thing I threw away were cardboard inserts, but I managed to turn that big box into two smaller ones, one for manuals and flattened boxes and one for the games.
I like DVD cases, they take up much less space.
