Uncharted 2 vs. 1: If you played 2, and not 1, would you bother going back to play 1? Anyone played both? How do they compare?

I'm right now going through the first one to then play the second.
It's fairly enjoyable, not the best game but the characters are fine and the climbing is fun.

I'm going through the first one and it's kind of gotten boring:

1) Walk into place with lots of low walls
2) A bunch of guys who all look identical appear
3) shoot at them for what feels like forever (especially when a guy without even a shirt on can somehow take 12 shots from an AK-47 and still run around good as new)
4) Platform for a minute OR platform for 5 minutes to new area
5) goto 1

repeat for 12 hours.

You're doing it wrong.

I know this because I did it wrong the first time, too.

See, the problem with Uncharted 1 is that it was balanced to use melee finishers much more often than you'd think. In fact, the game relies on two tactics to kill people: the headshot and the running and gunning towards the enemy for a melee insta-kill (which you wouldn't think to do because you just assume that the guy who took three bullets to the chest and is happily shooting at you with an AK wouldn't fall down with a single punch... but he does).

So that's its main fault. When you adapt to that you realize that the game is much more fun if you snipe at guys with shotguns and shoot from the hip a lot to kill guys with handguns with melee finishers.

Of course, Uncharted 2 is much, much better designed. Shooting works much better and melee becomes much more of a stealth tool (in Uncharted 1 doing stealth is reduced to beign completely out of sight and getting a stealth kill on the first guy before the rest start shooting at you).

All in all, Uncharted 1 is a great game as well. I've gone through it a couple of times, which is a lot, since I don't generally finish games I don't enjoy, much less replay them. It's just not as good as 2, but it's well worth a playthrough, even if you've played 2 first.
To me it's fundamental flaw is in it's lack of exploring and platforming. The focus is all on the action, and it's even worse when the start of the game teases you with a fun ancient ruin to explore. All the punching people in the world doesn't bring that back.

They both have rather generic "adventure" storylines. The biggest difference is that Uncharted 1 had terrible explosion graphics and 2 had a few more guns to choose from. I own and have completed both.

The first one was really fun, it made me uber excited when Uncharted 2 was released. they are both epic games.

For me Uncharted: Drakes Fortune was far superior even though the story shat itself when your fighting nazi zombies but hey at least its better than demon yetis (wtf?).
Gameplay they were both the same with minimal improvements in Among theives.
Drakes Fortune also had Eddy Raja in it too.
I only got Among theives for the multiplayer (which sucked).
