(I'm still pretty new to this site, and not sure as to whether or not this is put in the right section, since it's ABOUT a movie but REGARDING a game, so if it is, let me know :))

""Uncharted will make a movie" - Says columbia pictures, who have set Kyle Ward to write a manuscript, that will glean heavily towards the first game for the PS3.

Kyle Ward is also connected to a film based on "Kane & Lynch" With Bruce Willis as one of the 'protagonists' - Aswell as "Hitman 2", writes the Hollywood Reporter.

So far nothing is known regarding the main characters in Uncharted or when the film is set to arrive. It is also not clear if it is going to be a rewrite of the first game, or if a bridge is to be built between the first and second game.""

I think this is pretty awesome news. I loved the game, and this could make one of the first proper game-based movies ever. Personally I thought Hitman - The Movie was alright, but as Uncharted already plays out just like a movie, I'm really looking forward to this.

So, a game designed as a homage to adventure movies like Indiana Jones is being turned into an adventure movie? Doesn't that kind of defeat the point of it being a homage?

When you consider the last Indie film was Kindom of the feckin Crystal Skulls a homage made movie will be infinatley better and closer to Indie than that piece of crap.

Ah, but it is a video game being turned into a movie, therefore we must believe that it is shit before we know anything about it.

But I swear, if Hollywood completely botches the "Shadow of the Collosus" movie (yes, they're making a movie out of that game!!!@#$), I will do.........something bad that I don't know what it is yet.

It does seem pointless, given that a charismatic game character, a rarity in the field, is being played by a personality vacuum. Matthew McConagoganny is mooted.

Of course we must, as that is to be taken for granted since that's the way it plays out 99.99% of the time.

Judging by the game movies that have already been released, it won't. I'm one of the very few who enjoyed Indy 4.

Well there was already a thread about this, but since you're new I'll let you off. Just use the search bar to tell if anyone's done the thread before.

Welcome to the Escapist.

Still, a Kane and Lynch movie? That's news to me. Shouldn't it be done by Quenten Tarinto if it's going to be any good? Although I doubt it will be anyway.

Wait, he's going to be the main character? How does that work?

As for the Kane and Lynch movie with Bruce Willis, that may very well be worth paying attention to, being that Bruce Willis is ucking fawesome.

How the fuck do they plan to do that? That game has the most minimumalist plot I have ever seen. Mega64's sketch [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqd9GiaJUos] is probably the closest thing to Shadow of the Colossus we'll ever get.

That's the last I heard. It could just be the usual rumours to fill a bit of space in a mag.
Nothing against the guy per se, but it is a stupid idea. Still, none of us expect much from it so why worry?

I tried searching for one, but couldn't find it :)

And thanks a lot.

Regarding the Kane and Lynch movie I'd hoped it would be someone like Tarantino or someone with a touch of insanity in their prior movies.

I tend to agree, given that Uncharted is basically a rip off of other franchises like Indiana Jones and National Treasure (albeit a decent rip off) I fail to really see the point. At the very best they could hope to do as well as the "Tomb Raider" movies which were pretty mediocre.

Plus given riffs by people like Yahtzee, I think they would try too hard to make it politically correct (Yahtzee accused the game of racism very directly, and I've heard other similar criticisms over the years).

As far as a Kane and Lynch game, to my knowlege it was a spectacular train wreck. Why would anyone want to touch that property with a 10 foot pole?

I honestly have high hopes for this, Uncharted already had a very filmic feel to it, the characters where very lovable and the script was good.
I'll be looking forward to this.

A problem I can see with this movie is that the game itself was basically a blockbuster in itself full of cliches and tropes and the like. That doesn't make it a bad game, but it does most likely translate into just an average action movie.

Not trying to sound pestimistic here, but it's a video game movie, what am I supposed to expect?!?

I'm wondering if they'll also stay true to the game and have huge armies of minorities being mowed down like wheat throughout the course of the film?

It's true that Uncharted fell back on more than a few cliches of the action adventure genre, but I still hold hope that the characters and general energy of it can make it good.
That said, it is hard to see past the video game to film curse of guaranteed crappiness.

Ugh...

you can see they're going to give Nathan Drake a Ryan Reynolds frat-boy makeover to make him even more of an insufferable dickhead. Uncharted got away with the cheesiness, obnoxious characters and blatant ripping off of films cliches because it turned it into a decent game. Turning all this shit back into a film will just pile the mound of shit ever higher.

One film that might turn out OK, though, is Bioshock. Gore Verbinski, who hasn't exactly moved the earth in his career but has made some decent stuff, is directing and a script has been prepared by the fellows behind Gladiator, so fingers crossed that fulfils its' potential.
