Agreed. but I'll take a dose of new Uncharted where ever I can get it.
Besides, I'm not wanting to risk any canon slipping past me. No matter how straight forward the story is, the references really make EUs worth it.

The only person that says this is Yahtzee, and so people getting their opinion from him aren't getting the full picture. I'd be amazed if you could find another review apart from his of Uncharted 2 that doesn't lavish praise on both the characters and the storytelling of the series. It's a step above nearly everyone else in the industry.

Still probably not buying the book though, for the same reason I don't buy Indiana Jones nvoels: they're not needed. :p
