Ever played a game that you thought was great but didnt get the acclaim you thought it deserved leave a comment below explaining why.

I for one thought king kong was a good game trying to kill a big ass dinosour with one spear and nothing else cos ya wasted all your ammo :p damn tense and rewarding I think ppl who used cheats ruined the game for themselves.

im a fan of darksector purely because it was so brutal and pretty challenging, the story line was just not there, but the game play made up for it!

Just a few off the top of my head:

- Planescape: Torment
- Neverwinter Nights (Though concidering the NWVault, it was probably just where I live)
- True Rememberance
- Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
- Scarlet Weather Rhapsody (Might just be a regional thing though)

I'll obviously give the obligitory mention to Psychonauts (I'm on my seventh playthrough atm)

I reckon more people needed to play The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. If anyone likes [Prototype] and has a PS2, get The Hulk: UD and play it. It's like a smoother, more refined and more fun [Prototype] and they feel similar because they're both made by Radical Entertainment.

Another has to be Shadow of the Colossus and more importantly Ico.

Sweet! This thread again! I love how we get this on a weekly basis! Sorry, I don't usually ***** about repeat threads but this happens so much.
I hardley think its on a weekly basis.

And pretty much welcome to the escapist OP

I think that Too human is very underrated, all the people who didnt like it, played it wrong.

EDIT:

Also these 2 games, they were completely fantastic. Some of the best games out there.

Psychonauts is definelty underratted as some people have said. I would also say Beyond Good and Evil, didn't sell very well but is a hellova game.

It sho' does feel that way.
On the weekly issue:

I'm pretty sure I mention this at least once a week - Psychonauts doesn't count as underrated (not that it ever was) or obscure anymore..

(Yes, it's a fantastic game. It's not underrated, given that it's critically acclaimed, and nowadays, everyone and their mother's cousin's nephew's former roommate has played it and talked about how underappreciated it is.)

Metal Slug is under represented. When was the last time you saw a Metal Slug cabinet in an arcade? I saw one, around 7 years ago and it was the only one I've seen. This series is pure 'run n gun' action at its best. People have heard of it, but no one's played it (except for maybe Metal Slug 3 because It's available now on the XBL marketplace and PSN store) but it's never mentioned, reviewers never allude to it, it's like a ghost.

Nascar Rumble and its sequel Rumble Racing are both incredibly fun racing games that no one played.

I think Street Fighter 3 has been somewhat neglected. It's been lost in the constant wave of praise fanboys throw at Street Fighter 2 and the people's love fest with the Alpha series and it's just been sitting there, getting played by some tournament players but ignored by the rest of the public. Hell, even Capcom denies its existence. There hasn't been a Street Fighter 3 character in any crossover game (Except Capcom Fighting evolution) until now that Capcom recognized it as its own and included 3 characters from it in Super Street Fighter IV, while the Alpha series has 7 characters in this installment.

Astro boy: Omega Factor was an incredibly fun GBA game. I don't know if it's underrated, but no one I know has heard of it and people didn't take it seriously because it was a licensed game.

There are more, just none that I can think of right now.

Oh, and Just Cause 2 deserved a 9/10 and not a crummy 8/10. IGN gave the Halo series high 9's every time when they didn't deserve it. Then they call themselves game critics.

yes this thread is WAY over done, and Wrench is right about Psychonauts, it was unknown and underrated at LAUNCH, not now, its a HUGELY popular game now, so i can finally stop being put in these stupid threads. Also, nice Spaceballs reference

I know! Street Fighter 3 had some cool guys. Alex, Remy, Oro[sub]okay, he was just weird[/sub], Q, and Hugo would've all made cool additions to the Street Fighter IV lineup. Dammit, where's my Charlie!? whey haven't they included him?!

hehe, I already proposed in another thread to just create a weekly schedule on the thread subjects. This seems a nice subject for wednesday mornings :).
But I can't find my answer to the last couple of times.

Parasite Eve 2. (I barely played the first one).

I think it is the perfect mix of Resident Evil and an RPG. (It's by Square).

It's not really a survial horror because the main character can heal herself and is usually near an ammo supply point. That said on the harder modes (Bounty, Scavenger, Nightmare) it becomes harder to survive and you have to get creative with your powers and items to find enemy weaks spots. Great game design if you ask me.

It's a bit like Marmite tho... some people hate it. What do you guys think?

Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure.
A really great GBC game that probably fell under the radar for most gamers. Even today it's a blast to play.
