So the vote just started on the escapist's game of the year and as I read through the comment and other threads I always see comments that are along the lines of "the game I felt deserved GOTY isn't on the list" and do I ask you;

What is your GOTY that is not featured on the official list?

Planetside 2 isn't on there and I'm currently having ridiculous amounts of fun with it.

Well, my GoTY is on that list, as are the second and third games I'd pick.

So I default to Sleeping Dogs.
I'd also say Trails Evo because holy shit, so much frustrating fun. :D

Little Inferno.

It would never win but I think it should get a nomination if just for the commentary it provides.

I certainly wouldn't vote for Planetside 2 because of the large amount of problems I have with it, but it should at least be nominated because it is one of the most ambitious games that came out this year.

Anyway, my personal games of the year, Spec Ops: The Line, and Dishonored, are both on pretty much every GOTY list out there, so I really don't have an underrated GOTY.

Dragon's Dogma was my GOTY. I thought it was a great combination of action and rpg elements, I loved its creature designs and environments, and I thought its narrative was one of the smartest bits of digital game philosophy I've seen in a long time.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 isn't my choice, but I can see how it might be someone else's. It was good, but I enjoyed its predecessor as well, so it's not like I went into it hoping to hate it.

Farcry 3. yeah it counts as next year but it'll be forgotten by then. So yeah it should be on this year.
umm why does it count for next year? in any case, its sure as hell not under rated. id say Spec Ops: The Line is the best choice for underrated goty

I would've said The Line, but I've already voted it,Mark of the Ninja is also there, but I don't think it can fall into the GotY category for me,as much as I love it as a stealth game(lets me complete levels WITHOUT a weapon, the last few levels you don't have equipment at all,and the most ridiculous enemies are introduced).
Offtopic: Let's see how many "non-hipster",better known games are on the list compared to the total amount: Mass Effect 3,Far Cry 3,Halo 4,Brolands 2,CoD:BlOps 2,Diablo 3,AssCreed 3,WoW:MoP(up).A total of 8 out of 20,they're so easily excluded with the numbers, aren't they.

Persona and Tokyo Jungle are pretty big in the East I assume, but not in the NA/EU market,so not counting them.Guild Wars 2 hasn't really grown outside its own community,so...yeah,same for The Secret World, hence I don't include those either. The Walking Dead became popular as the episodes were released one after another and Dish-on-o-red felt like a "middle-class" game,an experiment, not a secure all-in investment with sure success and profit.

Primordia. It's a great adventure title, sort of cyberpunk themed and has a cool visual style.

As long as they don't give ME3 the GotY because IT DOESN'T DESERVE IT!!!!!

I don't mind what they pick. Or is picked.

Far Cry 3 is on the game of the year list, so it counts as this year.

I'm so gonna get flamed for this: Final Fantasy XIII-2.
*Defends you* You are not alone! I enjoyed that game more than I should have, I was insanely disappointed with 13 but played this on a whim (It was my sister's copy) and I loved every second of it! Too bad it is overshadowed by it's awful predecessor...
Can you list me some of its improvements over its predecessor and why you loved it? I've only heard bad things about it until recently and I do like me some FF.

I don't know what mine would be :/
I guess FTL, it was a great little game and I had tons of tense moments and fun with it. That came out this year right?

Dragons Dogma. I haven't completed out the story fully to comment properly there, but mechanically alone, its worthy of it. Even aside from its primary climb-on-monsters gimmick (which handles far more organically then I'd anticipated), theres a ton of co-oppy combat goodness (though its shame you can't do full on co-op instead of just trading pawns) that harkens back to stuff like Chrono Trigger (albeit in real time). It has its flaws in travel time, and mostly static encounters, but when you do fight, it makes up for it. The crafting system is also worthy of note, although a bit confusing to tackle head on.

A lot of them seem minor, but they still count...

I found the Serah/Noel duo worked very well and I loved how there was no romance involved, which is normally the case with male/female duos, it was refreshing. Noel is also one of my favorite FF characters, I thought he would be the new character we wold have to baby through the game but his backstory is excellent and I liked his interaction with Serah.

Combat was faster and removed the stupid "pan to every character every time you paradigm shift for the first time each battle" The addition of monsters to tame made combat more fun to mess around with.

The Crystarium is revamped to suck less and no more materials to improve your weapons, good riddance.

Much less linear and even sidequests and fun bosses to fight off the beaten path.

Things were explained to you and you didn't have to read a bloody datalog to know what was what.

I actually enjoyed how the story went, it stuck to 2 characters and wasn't jumping all over the place, and I am excited for the final game in the trilogy!

I found it improved everything that bugged me about 13.
I might check it out then. If I can get it cheap I certainly won't be too disappointed even if I don't like it.

Solar 2 from the Xbox Live Indie selection.

How many other games this year let you grow into a black hole and absorb the universe? And how many let you do it for just $5?
