Hooray, yet another music thread. I'm sure the originality burns. I realize this has most probably been done numerous times before (the search bar is a trap!), but I really wanted to start my own thread with blackjack and hookers, if only to see if I can annoy people. Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to see what the hive mind of The Escapist considers to be underrated groups or individuals, ones that produce a constant stream of "holy shit, my ears just had an orgasm" without all that pesky fame and glory. The genre is irrelevant; the only factor should be quality works that you feel deserve more attention and/or accolades. I shall begin this exercise in whoring by listing five groups that are fountains of jaw-dropping pieces yet aren't making swimming pools full of money for some reason.

The first group I discovered while exploring the ridiculously intricate depths of Touhou fandom, perusing the slew of doujin groups and massive libraries of arranges, and found one that was neglected even among Touhou fans by the name of Virus Key. Google has given me nothing and none of the links I was provided were in English, so I still don't know if it is even a group or simply a pseudonym, but what I do know is that the music he/she/it/they produces is fucking amazing. This is definitely something that needs more love, and I will do my part by presenting you with two examples:
An arrange of The Venerable Ancient Battlefield ~ Suwa Foughten Field
An arrange of Voyage 1969

The second group I also discovered via Touhou, but although WAVE is more well known than Virus Key they still deserve far more credit for their works. Again I provide two samples, the first one in particular a work of majesty:
An arrange of Bloom Nobly, Cherry Blossoms of Sumizone ~ Border of Life
An arrange of Kid's Festival ~ Innocent Treasures

The third group is Two Steps From Hell, and they do music for film trailers. That's it. As far as I know they don't even allow their work to be sold to the general public. That hasn't stopped a few intrepid pirates music enthusiasts from unleashing their music onto the intertubes, and I must say they have done the world a fantastic service. Have a listen for yourself if you don't believe me:
Protectors of the Earth
Fallout

The fourth group, Future World Music, is another that does film trailer music, and though they don't surpass Two Steps they are damn close. I will let their work speak for itself:
Aqua Vitae
Finale

For a bit of variety the final addition is not a group, instead an individual using the pseudonym Marasy, and is a pianist of supernatural quality. The man has either an invisible third hand or spider fingers to do what he does. Observe:

In summation: WORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDS. Also, please list your own contributions of those that have been sadly overlooked, as inferior as they will be to mine because sharing is caring.

A better word might be "under-appreciated", underrated implies that something is better than people think it is - what I gather you mean to do with this thread is to promote bands most people simply haven't heard of at all.

As for contributing... hell, pretty much everything I listen to falls into this sort of category, I'd be here all day if I wanted to actually make a list, track down music, etc. So I will take the super lazy option and just post links to places where I've already done the legwork, whee!

Here are the various music reviews I have composed here at the Escapist, all of which apply to this thread because overlooked or unknown gems are pretty much the only kind of albums I review.
