I wasn't sure where to post this, since it is partially about games, then again it's not exactly about the games themselves.

I'm talking about game references showing up in unexpected places.
Since there are a lot of videogame references around (Frogger in Seinfeld, the ever-famous "Make Love Not Warcraft" of Southpark, and no doubt countless more) this should not become a collection of basically every obvious videogame reference out there, but of the "stealth" references, like design elements being reused in a different context.

Maybe the inspiration for this trhread will clarify that:

Recently I saw the video for "Spaceship" from Benni Benassi, which is impressively terrible, not only because of the ridiculous lyrics, the overuse of autotune and the same flipping rhythm that seems to be in every single Benni Benassi song, but also because of the visual effects in the video, which - in quality, coolness and realism - are easily surpassed by 2001 or even the original TRON.
One thing in the video makes it almost watchable, though:
For some reason, the person who designed the titular spaceship (which, by the way, can be seen for about 20 seconds in total) was about as creative as Benni Benassi himself, and just used the design of the Harborship of Bentus, as it appears in Homeworld 2.
Granted, they didn't reuse it exactly like it was, they changed the colour to blue (because, like, blue is awesome...), immensely lowered the level of detail (no docking area on the inside, no windows) and added a few antennae. There are also some landing legs which appear from somewhere on the ship's hull (no recognizable points of origin, they are just there suddenly).

So, since I don't expect Benassi to be the first to have done anything, has anyone here ever noticed out-of-context (ab)use of game elements in other media?

I was watching the Japanese F1 Grand Prix last weekend, and toward the end of the race Kamui Kobayashi had stuck a set of soft tyres on during his last pit stop and was suddenly flying along much faster than the cars in front of him. Basically he jumps the TWO cars immediately ahead into a corner in a bit of a daredevil move, which to be fair he is bloody good at.

As the replay is being shown, the commentator comes out with "It's as if he just shouts to himself 'LEROY JENKINS' and off we go"! Combined with the fact we were both sitting playing WoW at the time, my flatmate and I were pretty much pissing ourselves laughing.

The COD4 reference in family guy was pretty good.
I think that was MW2, and the coolest part of that was I think fourzerotwo was the guy taunting Peter.
