This is a thread about fantastically strange stuff that happens to you while you're playing games. (It is search-barred, by the way.)
The obvious candidates for this will be more non-linear games, where a larger variety of madness can happen. Examples of regular randomness can be found in Morrowind, Oblivion to a lesser extent, Cortex Command (Which my little story will be about), Spelunky, and the like. I'd like to hear about some perhaps more obscure games where things like this happen as well, seeing as gems like Cortex Command and Spelunky, games available for FREE (Well, Cortex Command gives you some cut-down features for free, I think, but it's in development anyway. I'd advise to buy it and support Data Realms, as Data only has one source of income, and you can guess what that is.), can be only hiding around the corner, unnoticed by the majority.

Anyway, here's a little example of the crap that can happen in CC. Yeah, it's not that random, but it only happened today and it's still fresh in my mind.
So, there I was, my brain unguarded in a glass tank, and controlling one body only: Frank, a power-armored soldier equipped with a Fat Man Mini-Nuke launcher, a Gauss Minigun, a Super Sledge, a Solar Scorcher, and the obligatory Cortex Command Jetpack (All characters have a jetpack, even most characters in the mods, which is important, it being an almost entirely mod-supported game.), along with some damned stubborn courage.
I'm invading a dummy base, and dead clones of myself from earlier attempts to storm the base lie around, dismembered, blank eyes staring at nothing through steel helmets, never to focus on anything again.
I fly through the base, shooting Dummy Droids with my minigun, gunfire throwing me off my course of flight.
I see the corridor ahead, filled with Dummies. I deactivate my jetpack, allowing it time to recharge. I have only one option, given the Scorcher's low damage against non-organic opponents, the Gauss Minigun's reloading time, and the Sledge's inability to be effective against very large crowds because of Frank's slow movement.
One option. The Fat Man. I fire it, trying to stay far away from the blast, and am thrown back as a brilliant light fills the bunker for mere seconds. I crash heavily into a wall and bleed out, my right leg and gun arm gone.
My conciousness shifts back to the bunker. I am alone here. No turrets. No weapons. A brain in a jar. Not enough funding to drop in more units, except a flimsy robot with a bomb to kill myself before the Dummies get to me. I consider this for long minutes, and I hear mechanical sounds and jetpacks. I'm too late. I didn't make enough of a dent in their base to stop them getting to me, and now they're coming. A single droid flies into my below-ground unprotected bunker, digging his way in with a saw, surprising as the droids normally prefer plasma diggers. He comes to the armored door, which refuses to allow him entry. He pulls out a machine gun, having lost the saw to a small explosion which I can only presume was a discarded Impulse Charge.
He shoots, but not before throwing a grenade, which bounces off the door and rests on the barrel of his gun. It explodes, destroying the door and the droid. I prepare to drop in a robot with a bomb to finish myself off. But wait. A faint noise, a SHOOOM, like a large explosion. Wait. I'm at the far East of the map, it can't have been to my right. The only thing to my left is the Dummy base. I don't have any units there. I, shocked, can only watch and not move the camera as the WIN icon flashes up on screen, a warm, friendly yellow.
WHAT?!!
To this day, (the same day) I have no idea what happened. Yeah, you may see that as dragging it out a good bit, but I couldn't condense it without condensing the brilliance of that round.
Anyway, your discoveries, Escapists? As I said, all games welcome.

TL;DR:
Post random stuff that happened to you in games.

There are all kinds of theories, that it's just a glitch, or a bot added by Bungie during the testing process that was never removed, or that it's a player who's seriously lagging out or that it's just a game hack of some kind.... but no one can be certain.

It is a mystery, admittedly it hasn't been an important one in a number of years but it still does cause me to scratch my head at night and pray that I'll never come across this monster myself.

I was sort of hoping for a discussion on Stop N Swop [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_%27N%27_Swop#Stop_.27N.27_Swop] when I read the title. Not that I'm disappointed by your thread, it just wasn't what I was expecting :p

While I have no stories like that, I do hope others do as they're a joy to read.

I was playing Fallout 3, and walking about the wasteland. Suddenly, a Mercenary crashed down right infront of me. I looked up, and there was only clear sky. Just as I was about to look back down at the merc, a Super Mutant came falling towards me and smashed to the ground near the merc...

I was speechless =3. Never found out why, and I'm sort of annoyed that I wasn't recording the session.

That Cortex game sounds awesome, what exactly do you do in it?
It's a 2D strategic shooter which needs to be played to be believed. No description can do it justice. Here's a link to the Data Realms website. [http://www.datarealms.com/]

Yeah, I've heard of Yao Gauis and other creatures falling from the sky, but never experienced it. And I sometimes get this weird thing in my PC copy of FO3 where all the NPCs glide around, their legs frozen, inches above the ground, their heads rotating eternally on the X axis. That's what prompted me to buy it on my console of choice at the time, the 360 (I've since become a 360/PS3 gamer. Traded in my Wii, now slightly disappointed due to this year's E3 announcements from Nintendo), but I eventually fixed my PC copy. Weird stuff, though.

Not exactly random as it's probably in every copy but in Red Dead Redemption, when you enter the town of Tumbleweed, I think, you can hear the sound of a dog howling/barking. But when you look for the source of the dog barking or howling, it's nowhere to be found...
I'm not sure if it's a glitch, a sound left in for effect or if Rockstar added the dog then removed it, forgetting to take the sound out.

And for more RDR myths and rare sightings, check out this link. [http://x.datchan.org/index.php?title=Red_Dead_Redemption_Myths] Don't worry, it's not a link to 4chan itself, it's a link to an off-site archive. Some good stuff on there as well about urban myths and legends.
