It could be an RPG a la "Fallout", or an MMO "Ryzom" style. A first person shooter rampage, an RTS extravaganza or an entirely new kind of creature all together.
Which fantasy world (I mean fantasy in the sense of "the faculty or activity of imagining things that are impossible or improbable" and not constricted to the "High Fantasy" concept) do you think has not yet been exploited, or exploited properly, in any gaming environment yet?
We've all felt this: "It would just be (insert expletive) awesome if this game would be set in (insert name of awesome fantasy continuum)."
And to round it all a notch tighter; which game-genre would you consider to be the most suitable conduit to decant it to the world?

Example of what I'm aiming for:

Fantasy World
Talislanta
Genre
RPG or MMO.

Fantasy World
Deadlands
Genre
RPG or FPS.

Fantasy World
Lankhmar
Genre
Stealth or RPG.

Ecetera, etcetera, etcetera.

He wants us to take worlds from games, For example the mushroom kingdom, and think of other game genres could be based in this world, apart from Platforming Mario, Such as an MMO.

Wouldnt work completely but its just an example.

Id say some sort of shooter MMO Based on the Killzone universe would be amazing.

I would love to see a RPG (NOT MMORPG!!!!) set in the HL2 universe. THAT would be awesome.

Is that what you wanted me to do? I am a little confused too

Correct j0z.
Which fantasy world (of games, literature, films or elsewhere) would be great to play within. And which game-genre would fit it best.
And your choice is a rather enticing one. Agreed, no MMO! Much goodness has gone down in the vortex of what MMOs are barely able to offer.

Check this:

The Count of Monte Cristo as an open world game/pseudo-RTS (like Godfather 2).

I mean look at the plot:
You are Edmond...you have been framed for a crime you did not commit and banished to a hell that no man should endure. Your beloved is now the wife of a hated rival. The judge who put you away did so to save his own political career. The ones who aided your captors have profited from your demise.

The world thought you were gone forever.

They were wrong.

You were taught the way of the sword, the book, and the shadow by a old prisoner, and now have the knowledge of a fabulous treasure that could fund your return and your revenge.

But first you'll need to escape....

The game could start with Edmond in prison and have you figure a way to escape (either by stealth like in the book or by brawling with the guards with a stolen saber or by starting a riot or some combination).

Then you could jump to finding the treasure and returning to society as the cold, and enigmatic Count of Monte Cristo.

You can send your hired gun to deal with your enemies and slowly work out your own plan of revenge or you could risk a drop in prestige and go on a bloody rampage.

In the end, it's revenge YOUR WAY.

....wow, that gets me excited just thinking about it!

That might be the greatest sounding pitch for a game I've ever heard.

Praise be to Cthulhu. that would make both an epic RPG and an epic RTS
An RTS based on the Cthulhu mythos? Is that what you meant?

I'm not sure how that would work....but I would buy it.

Edit: Ooooh, it could run on a system similar to "Age of Mythology" (with certain 'patron' elder gods giving you certain bonuses, units, and buildings as you progress)!

A RPG set in the underworld of the Neverwhere [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwhere] Book and television show (more the book).
It's basically London but reimagined as two parallel world. See the link and if you have Netflix you can stream the BBC series (and all it's early nineties glory) but the book that they made of it is much better.

I was thinking MMORPG but as some others have said it probably be wasted.

Mmmmmm... not bad Rigs83!
Neverwhere is a very interesting set. And vast. It could also feed from similar works by authors that also write about this parallel obscure and bizarre London, such as Jeff VanderMeer [http://www.believermag.com/issues/200504/?read=interview_mieville]. Incidentally both of them being friends of Neil Gaiman, author of the work you mentioned.
It would be weird and dark as American McGee's: Alice was (with its obvious differences).
Lots of interesting possibilities for a great game in this New Weird [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Weird] (or Urban Weird) literary style.
I'd play that RPG.

I've yet to see a really good mainstream steampunk game, if that's the sort of question you mean.

Also, a game based around road fights. Not a RACING game, but say, there's always some truck full of baby poison that you and your rebels have to take down in a high speed pursuit.

Also bananas.
