unfair comparison tests

Hey all,

I was reading an article before that kind of annoyed me:
http://petapixel.com/2014/05/08/video-test-samsung-galaxy-note-3-versus-canon-5d-mark-iii/

Basically they did a test comparing the quality of footage you can get from a Canon 5d mark 3 versus a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone.

Now I found the article interesting and I was surprised by some of the information in it(like the fact that you can get phones now that are able to shoot at a 4k resolution). And I get that this article is simply to show how far cameras in phones have come, but the way they went about presenting it felt misleading and dishonest to me.

There were a number of issues I had with the test itself, which basically boil down to them setting it up so the conditions favour the Samsung phone, and ignore situations where it captures footage horribly.

Two examples:

The test was conducted in optimum lighting conditions. They never compared how both products perform in low light conditions. Because there would have been no comparison, the Samsung's footage would have been noticeably noisier and overall looked far more terrible.

All of the footage used was locked off shots. If you were to use both the phone and camera handheld, there would be some camera shake with both, but it would be far worse with the phone. And if you were to put both of the products on tripods and do a panning shot, it would just show how much worse the phone performs. Because you would immediately notice that the Samsung's footage was jerky while the Canon's footage would look fine.

What bugs me the most is that someone who doesn't know a lot about cameras might watch this test and walk away with the impression that they can shoot just as well or better with a phone then they could with a SLR. Which is a blatant lie. Only under very strict conditions are they comparable. It almost feels to me like this article is designed to rip off gullible people.

Anyway, this got me thinking, are there any other similar articles you've read that you felt unfairly compared products(cameras, musical instruments, computers, whatever you can think of)?
