I've got a unique hobby.

I read manga. In itself, that's not unique.

I write down the name of every manga I've read, along with the number of volumes I've read in it and whether I've completed it or not. That's not unique either, though most people use computers while I prefer a notebook.

The thing is, I'm devoted to increasing the numbers of manga boks. Not only do I try to read as much manga as I can get my hands on, but I also do my best to increase the average number of volumes I read in each title. The current average is roughly 4.5 volumes, and I hesitate to start reading new series unless I know that I can get my hands on at least 5 volumes of it, since otherwise it'll decrease my average. I've never heard of anybody else doing things that way.

So tell me, fellow escapists. Is there a hobby that you've got, and that nobody does quite like you do?

I have a similar hobby for creating databases for everything I consume. Every book that I read, game that I play and movie that I watch are neatly categorized by release date, original title and its author/creator. Counting today's Guardians of the Galaxy, I've seen 2,727 movies (includes shorts) in my entire life, read 275 novels (doesn't include loose poems and short stories) and played something like 166 videogames to completion (the definition of completion being occasionally open to interpretation).

Heh. You're making me imagine you sitting in front of your Game Boy playing Tetris, going "When's the damn ending gonna come?!"

Also, how could you watch Guardians of the Galaxy today?

It was released early at the Dolby Theater.

Yeah, the list doesn't contemplate "never ending" games, though I suppose I could add a filter for that :p
I watched Guardians at a press screening and for what it's worth it was very entertaining.

I've also got a database! It's got a whole list of games, divided into the ones I want and the ones I have. In the first column I've got a lengthy list of games I wish to play at some point in the future, ranked first by rote score but also marked with a "preference" label so that even low-scoring games have a fair chance if I'm particularly eager to play them (Moe helps). They're also divided by a color that denotes how expensive they may be at any given time, depending on average resale value or auction price.

But the right side is much more important! I've got a list of games I've purchased before, all with a label indicating buying price, date bought, and how I bought it. It's a nostalgic reminder of how long I've had some of my favorite titles. Surely a valuable historical document that will be a prized codex for the archaeologists of the future.

I collect treasure.

No, seriously. My brother gave me a pirate-esque treasure box for my birthday, so I figured I may as well fill it up. So every time I deposit my check, I ask for twenty dollars in one dollar coins and go on amazon or ebay to see if there's any bargains on loose gems or overstock jewelry. And now I'm going to see how long it takes to fill it up. And once it's full, I figure I can get an even bigger box and start over. Yo ho ho.

Okay granted, none of the stuff that goes in it is especially valuable or of high quality, but at least it's real (no costume jewelry or glass gems). That's my main rule.

I practice the most advanced settings in Excel to set up organizational systems. The only other unique hobby I have is that I study brain neurology because it's both interesting and fun. It's one of the subjects that I tutored at the college level for 3.5 years, and I loved every minute of it.

I'm attempting to learn to unicycle. I started last summer, then went away to college before I got the hang of it (didn't have the time to learn while at college), and now I'm continuing to learn this summer. I can currently get about 10 feet without loosing my balance, and I'm slowly improving. Suffice it to say, riding a unicycle is hard.

That's probably my most unique hobby, but far from my only one. I snowboard, play the bass (and a little guitar), go rock climbing, go and experience the outdoors (camping, hiking, canoeing, ect.), and, of course, watch movies and play video games. I have a diverse set of interests.

That is brilliant. About how big is this treasure chest?

OT: I like to collect little bits and pieces of junk. Anything that just happened to catch my eye and can fit in my pocket usually ends up coming home with me. I do it because I plan on taking these random pieces crap one day and making stuff out of them, but am currently too lazy to do anything other than collect more buts of junk.

Well, it's uniquely expensive, but that's about it.
Perhaps, but I've been collecting for 10 years... When you spread out the cost, it hasn't been too painful.

Also, the expense isn't that unique. For example, some people bought Xbones.

About the size of your standard jewelry box, and it's still taking a long time to fill. Start small, work on up.

I don't know if this counts but I create Cosplay costumes out the cheapest materials I can. Currently I just finished a femle humanized rocket raccoon I made for the guardians premier tomorrow for under $30, and my Filia costume from Skullgirls i'm making for a convention is under $30, with the clothes part from good will for under $10. I guess you can say it's a talent?

That's probably a good idea as I have a treasure chest that I got a several years ago and it's about the size of your standard file box so it would take a very long to fill up.

I do strongman, which is a pretty unusual hobby, if for no other reason than the fact that the implements are really hard to get hold of.

Our gym now has two high-level strongman competitors training there, and they brought all their stuff along with them! So awesome.
