Lately I've been on the search for single player mods that are in any way unique or innovative, and I was wondering if any fellow escapists had a recommendation. It's a fairly broad specification, so even just mods that you think need a bit more love are also welcome. Right now my braining isn't working too well, but here are a couple of the ones that I remember:

Decay - Half-life 2 mod [http://www.moddb.com/mods/decay1]
The Interns Story - Half-life 2 mod [http://www.moddb.com/mods/quinjet]
The Nameless Mod - Deus Ex mod [http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-nameless-mod]
The Stanley Parable - Half-life 2 mod [http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-stanley-parable]
Dear Esther - Half-life 2 mod/remake on steam [http://www.moddb.com/mods/dear-esther]
Call of the Fireflies - Crysis mod [http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-call-of-the-fireflies]

People may have noticed me mention this mod before, but damn it, Europa Barbarorum for Rome: Total War. The way they enhanced the gameplay tenfold, and then crammed as much historically accurate knowledge of the time period into it all is just brilliant. It's hard as hell though, but I guess it is aimed for more experienced Total War players. But just the sheer size and scale of the work they've done is nothing short of amazing.

Fuckin' ninjas Arcanii.

As BathorysGraveland said, EB is epic. Also Rome: Total Realism 7.

Outside of Rome: Total War mods, I'm a huge fan of the Minecraft automation mods. Those seriously make me think that someone needs to just design a voxel-based game about complicated machinery from the ground up.

Nehrim mod for Oblivion.

It is a total conversion mod, basically turns Oblivion into a new game entirely.

Much better storytelling too, being fluent in German is a plus, but the subs are OK.

Also any and every mod for Freespace 2.

Fall from Heaven 2 for Civilization 4 [http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=171398]

It's a total conversion of the game into a D&D style fantasy universe. For someone who wants a modern turn-based fantasy game it would be worth getting Civ 4 just for this mod.

There's a really cool Half-Life 2 one called Minerva: Metastasis. It doesn't really add a bunch of a new stuff or anything, it's more like just a set of really well made and intriguing levels and quite suprisingly for a mod, has a plot which doesn't completely suck (probably because what of it there is is just a little text message every now and then.)
Anyway it's pretty fun, think I might replay it now.
