*sigh*Mazty said:You're just saying the usual bull (which I've heard before from one of the '20') that Bangor students come up with to try & justify throwing £30,000 down the drain, whilst coming across as pretentious to cover up the truth of the matter.ThatJagoGuy said:No. Please. Not the burn. Arg.Mazty said:Mate, Bangor isn't a redbrick, and isn't as good as Loughborough when it comes to sports studies. It has low entry grades. Nothing personal, but that means it's a shit university.
And yeah, I know around 20 people that went to Bangor, as it was the university of choice for the less intelligent people from my school.
Again, nothing personal, but when someone asks about a university or tries arguing the toss, I won't sugar coat the fact that Bangor is about as useful as a wet match.
Sorry, but how on earth does sub-standard clubs make a night out fun? That makes no sense. A good club makes a night out fun, shitty clubs means you feel like you've wasted your money, You can try and convince yourself otherwise, but that's the hard, cold truth.
And you don't know me, so congratulations on being conveniently judgemental. Personally I wouldn't have said this stuff as it is a cruel truth, but you tried arguing otherwise. Don't play with fire unless you want to be burned.
HAHAHAA! You speak like a 13 year old with a pair of nunchucks. No, Bangor isn't as good as a redbrick in the wider sense. But as a quick appraisal of the conversation will serve to demonstrate, I wasn't contesting that. I was contesting your unfair, unfounded critique of the students.
When you live in a place with poor nightclubs, you make your own fun and people are closer-knit as a consequence. Besides the department's reputation, I came here *because* it was a small place. I'm not sure there are many other unis so close to mountains, beaches, surf, and woodland(.... hmmm, deja vu). I'd take that over your clubbing bollocks any day, mate.
I am rather intrigued as to why you consider yourself an authority on educational establishments... and people for that matter. Unless you work for an educational body within the government or an impartial review system, I'm thinking that your opinions don't count for too much anyway.
Anyway, fuck this. You're not backing down despite the fact that I clearly know more about the place than yourself. I think that amply demonstrates the hard/cold/cruel/hard/icy/rocky/inconvenient/tasty/sugar-coated/hairy balls/whateverthefuckotherkind truth of the matter.
Knock the uni if you must be a dick about it. Don't knock the people because you clearly don't have a clue what you're on about.
Take Newcastle. Near the sea, has a stadium, and near the Cheviots.
Has everything Bangor has, and more: Better nightlife, better university.
If you want more of a town feeling, go to York.
And people are close knit in all universities. Sounds to me that you never visited or asked about other universities, but again, simply tried to validate your choice by making up crap about other universities.
How do I know so much? Well I haven't spouted much, but what I have said comes from people in those universities, which seem like good sources to work on. And everyone knows red bricks are the best.
Real question is what were your grades and could you have actually gone to one of the universities I mentioned, or do you simply have a grudge against them? Obviously this is a rhetorical question, as you sound like the kind of people that I know at Bangor, so I will safely assume the answer.
To cut things short, it's 72 out of 117 universities. Bangor is a waste of time & money. If you don't want to admit it, fair enough, I wouldn't expect you to knowing the mentality of the people at Bangor. But don't recommend it to someone else, and don't try arguing that it's any good.
You're such a blatant wind-up merchant. I've reduced my essay to bullet points.
1)YOU are just spouting the usual bullshit that people who don't know what the fuck they're on about say. Haha! At exactly which point was I 'pretentious'
2)Don't assume to know the mentality of an entire student population from 20 people who came from YOUR area. Of course there are dickheads, but there are also some of the best people I've ever met.
3)Look up Newcastle and York. Where would I find surf? Oh... there... isn't any! Laaaame.
4)Learn the value of individual school ratings over university ratings.
5)What did I 'make up' about other unis? I don't recall mentioning them at all..!
6)I'm so glad you brought up grades - I had an UC for York and turned it down. Oh, and if you don't eat all your words, you won't be getting dessert.
7)I have neither recommended Bangor, nor would I unless someone was doing OE, MB, or Psych and wanted local surf.
8)Once more, just for absolute clarity, I'm merely offering an informed counter-point to your unfounded, spurious rantings about something I'm fairly sure you know very little about.
9)Any questions within these points are rhetorical so it's probably best not to reply at all... though of course, if you do feel the compelling egotistical urge to reply, be sure to answer them all thoroughly.
