I like chemistry, and it was a good deal with ROTC. I get into a school with a program, they pay the entire four years.

2) Veterinary Medicine (2 months left until finals)

3) Of the 2 vet schools in Scotland (the other being Glasgow), Edinburgh was the one that impressed me most during the open day. Also my whole family is from Glasgow and I didn't really fancy being so close by.

I chose it for the immense school spirit/welcoming atmosphere that I really enjoyed when I visited.

I also looked at both waterloo and mcmaster for physical sciences, and both were good schools. I did notice more men compared to women at waterloo though...Just go to whatever one feels more like a home since you will be there for at least 4 years.

Hello escapist!

Well, I'm going to university next year (Sept 2011), I have one letter of acceptance from a university which is one of my top 2. The feeling was great at the time, I was in Calculus class and being the product of a generation, I got the e-mail in class, it was exciting.

The novelty has worn off of course. I'm still happy, but it's not as mind blowing as it was built up to be.

My country makes the distinction between College and University very obvious, I think that's a bit pretentious.

Well, rambling aside, my questions for discussion were:

1) What university are you going to?
2) What program do you plan to study?
3) Why did you pick that university and or program?


For me:

1) Either McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario, or The University of Waterloo in well... Waterloo Ontario.

2) I'm going to be studying physical sciences. (That's Physics and Chemistry as it applies to inanimate matter, if you're unfamiliar)

3) I guess I still haven't really decided, but I'm leaning towards McMaster because I've heard Waterloo is quite crowded, and there are a ridiculous amount of men in comparison to women. (not my only reasons)

I think the popularity of the physical sciences is made pretty clear, I mean, the Enrollment number is 75 people (and the requirements aren't ridiculously high).

Also, I'm interested in knowing if any of you escapists are going to McMaster or Waterloo.

I go to Waterloo for Nanotechnology Engineering, the school is great. (I may be a little biased)
plus the Men to Women ratio is really only a math / computer science phenomenon. The ratio is closer to 50:50 in most of the science / arts courses.

That is not to say Mac is not a nice school, many of my cousins (and mother) have gone there and loved it.

3) I went to UCF because Florida schools are really cheap for in-state students. Also because they had a program for game design, which is something I want to do. I was originally going to be a Computer Science major, though, although I'm starting to think I should've switched my major and minor around...

American University in the Capital Wasteland. I am studying Political Science and History. I chose it because a)It was in DC, so a great location for studying political science and b)my second choice wait-listed me.
If University of Georgia had accepted me, I might have gone there. The location isn't as great but their history program is supposed to be pretty good and I would be happy not paying $40,000 in tuition every year.

1) Texas Tech - 2 semesters; Midland College - 1 semester; North Central Texas College - 3 semesters; University of North Texas - 3 semesters.

2) I'm about to get what's called a "General Studies" degree. Pretty much I take 45 hours of 3000 and 4000 (junior and senior) level classes in three different fields of study. I chose History, Geology and Criminal Justice.

3) I picked the program because it allowed me to graduate the soonest and it allowed me to study in most of the areas I have a large interest in. As for bouncing around universities. well, it just kinda happened that way. I'm going to graduate here in a few months from UNT. Reason for going there; distance, time, money. It won over in all 3 categories. Though student loan money shouldn't be a problem really, I plan on joining the military right after I finish school... and they have student loan repayment!

1. I'm currently at Brunel University, West London.
2. Studying English and Drama Joint Honours.
3. I love English, and I love Drama. Brunel wasn't my first choice; I went through clearing (for those of you who don't know, clearing is when you don't meet the required grades to get into your first or second choice - I need AAB for my first choice, which was Birmingham, or ABB for my second, which was Loughborough. I got ABC....) I love it here though.

3. I have been a fan of OSU athletics all my life, a few of my friends go there as well. Not great reasons, but I really love it here. Campus is nice, I think I like what I am studying now, was in electrical engineering, but the math and physics was too much for me. All in all I like where I am and it was the only university I actually applied to, it's easy to get into the school so I had nothing to worry about.

I went to one of the open houses and it was pretty cool. I was excited to see the Observatory (from the outside, just the dome, but they said anyone in the sciences has access to it pretty much whenever). I didn't get to see the physics building unfortunately, but I imagine it was impressive.


Do you know how residence is? I'd likely be staying on residence, but I didn't visit any because the person who went with me was a bit rushed.

I collected as many of the 'ideas start here' buttons as I could, which was fun for the spectacle. I'll probably make another trip to the university and try to see more of it.

I was actually amazed that it was essentially a little city in of itself.

Haha, wicked. What initially sold me on applying to McMaster was the description of the Program on E-info. All the subjects in the physical sciences seemed incredibly interesting.

Regrettably, I haven't actually visited McMaster yet, but I do plan to.

I've heard they have a Planetarium, do you know if students have access to it?

Also, how are the residences at McMaster? I'd imagine pretty good, it has a fine reputation.
