Lately, I've been noticing in games..there are been a lot less accomplishments for going through them or beating them. Seeing as I only have a Wii,Gamecube, and a PS2; I might have missed out on such things in other games, but none the less, its still a common problem I keep seeing.

I love having a challenge in the games I play. Having to go through a secret level, or difficult challenge, to get a new character or trophy...but all these newer games have been such letdowns. Back in the day, Melee was challenging, having to survive the 15man melee to get one of the N64 stages, or going through Adventure mode on medium or higher to see Giga Bowser.....and then we have Brawl come out on the Wii..and what a letdown...getting nearly all the characters(without even a fight) by just going through Adventure Mode, or unlocking the very few stages it had just by "Playing -insert name- 20 times"....

Basically, what I want to know, if anyone knows any other fun games with actually challenging unlocks and achievements(fighting games will probably be the most frequent) or what was the most difficult/self-rewarding thing you did to unlock something on a videogame?
(Mine being trying to beat very hard on the first and last of the F-Zero GX story missions..god those were hard)

Most of my games on the 360 and PS3 have unlockable content and stuff. It's just last gen doesn't have as much. I think it's a standard now.

If it is a standard, I haven't really noticed it at all, besides the some of the pointless "Killed 100 enemies" on an FPS, or beating a game once and getting the "You've unlocked Super Extreme Lose Almost All Your Health In A Few Hits mode"....umm..yay?

Most games have some sort of achievement system tied into it, especially the ones that are a part of the online scene. They're good I guess for people who have the time to grind out, or farm out, or just veg out all the time. Most gamers probably do have that kind of time.

Personally, I never really cared enough about arbitrary point systems once I've finished a game, that's pretty much it for me.

One thing I did do that I liked was in HL:2 where I raced the robot 'Dog' and beat him which was an achievement. For something novel like that it was pretty neat.
