Every copy of Half Life 2, Bioshock and Skyrim should be erased from existence.

Portal 2 blows Portal 1 out of the water.
Only stuff valve did great are Portal 1, 2 and the first Half Life (with a proper unofficial HD mod installed)

OT:
Half Life 2, a 10 hour borefest which got expanded to around 18 but never got a proper ending. Beta was way better.
Only Halo games worth playing are 2 and Reach.
Only good Zelda games are the first one for Nes, Ocarina Of Time and Twilight Princess.
I prefer the Metal Gear Solid remake for the cube over the original.
What about Left 4 Dead? That was pretty good.

I guess, in general, the PS1/PS2/Xbox generations had far superior games to the current gen (obviously with a few exceptions).
I just feel that they don't have heart anymore. I mainly buy second-hand or part-ex games now because there's hardly anything out there worth a full price.

L4D2 was horrible, first one was actually kinda decent but I never bought it for myself.

Skyrim is without a doubt the worst game i have ever played.
Actually, that gives me an idea for another unpopular gaming opinion: I believe that there are shades of grey between "great" and "crap", and I respect a game if it's well-made, even if I didn't enjoy it.

For example, while I did not enjoy Dark Souls and cannot understand the completely glowing reviews it got, I am convinced that it is a well-made game that a certain niche of gamers can enjoy. In fact, I too would probably enjoy the game very much if the difficulty came from the awesome boss fights themselves, rather than the fact that you have to fight your way through the same groups of zombies on the way to the boss everytime you die.

Edit: And I will also admit when games I liked are flawed. For example, as an RPG gamer, I will freely admit that even though I enjoyed certain RPGs immensely, I do not believe they merit a perfect score because they are inexcusably buggy or imbalanced. Anybody played that Pirates of the Carribean game on the PC (the Russian one that was originally called Sea Dogs 2, but got rebranded)? Loved that one to death, but I can understand if somebody hated it because much of it was a bug-infested mess.

Console gaming is better than PC
Mass Effect 3 was great
All MMO's are pretty boring.

Mass Effect was a mediocre series and its ending was perfectly consistent with the quality of the rest of the series, making the critical reception to the third instalment a gigantic overreaction. The game was on rails from its inception, with color of those rails being the only choice the player ever had.

The Grand Theft Auto series isn't nearly as fun as it used to be. The tone of IV suffered for trying to split itself between serious and humorous, and its shooter component is incredibly shallow with very sloppy, sluggish controls. Meanwhile, its derivatives have continued to expand on its premise, introducing better stories, better gameplay, and novel mechanics to a stale formula.

A brief consideration of the illusion of the relationship between cause and effect that appears to dominate the macro world in which we exist would alleviate untold amounts of Gamer with a G angst and confusion. Example: the endings to many video games "suck" because statistics demonstrate that most customers don't reach the ends of games, leading developers to the conclusion that their limited resources are better spent on the areas that the most customers actually will see. Hooray for more money to make more games and buy food!

Gamers who refer to other gamers as entitled are self-entitled hypocrites who misuse the word entitled.

Although perhaps not "unpopular" these are all things I know plenty of people will disagree with:

Skyrim is the best ES game, Oblivion is the worst.
The handheld Kingdom Hearts games are part of the "main series" no matter how much you say otherwise.
Runescape was easily the best MMO of it's time (similarly to WoW).
The Wii is the only 7th gen console that's really worth having because most PS3/360 games are released to PC anyway.
LoZ:OoT was a good game, but it doesn't deserve half the praise it gets, I'm pretty sure a lot of people only say they love it to fit in.

And this goes last cos it's longer:
5th gen Pokemon do not suck, the Litwick and Vannilite lines are some of my favourites.
Anyone calling the 5th gen unoriginal while saying the 1st gen was original have their head shoved up their arse, a caterpillar that evolves into a butterfly is less original then a ghost that carries around a mask, which evolves into a coffin that eats people.

I actually want Dark Souls 2 to be more accessible and have a less hidden story

What you and some other guy asked
The large functions put up to watch "pro" players play these games and the money the players win support an unrealistic portrayal of what a "gamer" is, and the games themselves are nothing more than point and click math problems. While Halo and CoD dumb down just one genre, these MOBA games dumb down an entire platform of the gaming industry, and they're praised for doing it.

There should be a special place in hell reserved for people who endlessly repeat Valve memes.

Nintendo is NOT the Antichrist.

WRPGs are not inherently superior to JRPGs. Nor ar PCs inherently superior as gaming devices to anything else.

i liked halo 4.
judging from the general mood of the internet, i don't think i'm in the majority.

fable 3 was terrible, in fact i think all of the fable games were pretty average at best.

i may not like CoD, but it has its place in the market and i dont have a problem with that.

Here's some very unpopular opinions.

- Atari Jaguar, and the 3DO for that matter I feel are truly underrated systems that don't derserve the flak they get.
- I'm not too fussed about a story in a game as long as the gameplay is good.
- Even though i don't do it, I feel Emulation has done a whole world of good for the gaming community in general.
- I feel Metroid Other M is a decent game overall, perhaps even better than the Prime sequels in some cases.
- The only Bioware games i have enjoyed are the first two Mass Effects, and Jade Empire.
- I feel videogames can be enjoyed just like any other media by anyone regardless of age, and sex.
- Final Fantasy VIII was the best in the series in my opinion. It had more interesting things going on in it.
- If you consider Ocarina of Time as a bad game, I don't consider you a hardcore gamer in my humble opinion.
If you wear the term "hardcore gamer" as some sort of badge of honor, and view yourself as someone who gets to decide to is allowed in the club, then you deserve every bit of social ostracism, rejection, and failure that you reap. You earned it.

On topic:
-The reason the first Halo became popular is because it was the first console FPS that wasn't a broken mess.
-Fallout 3 sucked.
-Quantity of content does not equal quality. Some really long games are shit. Some really short games are awesome. I have no problem paying full price for a short, good game.
-We are paying less, when adjusted for inflation, for our games than we ever have. Especially when you consider how much they cost to produce.
-User-generated content, with very few exceptions, sucks.
-I have no desire for "realism" when I'm playing a shooter or a sports game. None.
-
Sorry man, but that's kinda harsh.

It's just my view, Ocarina of Time is a seminal masterpiece, and people hating on it just feels wrong to me.

If it's not your cup of tea, I'm fine with that, it's just calling it a bad game, and extremely flawed on a gameplay standpoint seems like that gamer is voided of any respect for gaming. Maybe causing the whole Casual vs Hardcore debate is silly over just one game, but I don't know what else to associate it with.

It's like if someone hated Star Wars and the Godfather, as a film buff you should at least respect them even though they are not your thing. As they did so much for the media in general.

I know my views are controversial, but at least you know a little bit of reason behind my madness. Whenever or not you think that's a legitimate reason it's up to you, but please don't personally attack me for my opinions thank you.
I wasn't personally attacking anyone. I was taking issue with a statement that you made.

A personal attack would be attacking a quality inherent to you over which you have no control, or a circumstance from your past that is unrelated to the topic at hand. My critique was very much related to your comment.

I just really dislike it when someone attempts to make themselves out to be some sort of gatekeeper for the secret club of "hardcore gamer" (rawwwwrrrr), because it's inherently judgmental and kinda dickish. I have no issue with your opinion on Ocarina. I like Ocarina. I liked it a lot better when it first came out, and the primitive polygons didn't hurt my brain, but I like it. I was taking issue with your decision to judge other people's habits and preferences, and the fact that you were declaring the right to decide which meaningless labels people apply to themselves.

Referring to oneself as a hardcore gamer, besides being pointless, is not something that should be considered to be inherently positive or negative. Playing a lot of video games is fine. I do it, but it's not something on which I pride myself, because I have actual real-life achievements for that. But if someone considers themselves "hardcore", who cares? Why does that one game... that ONE GAME have any bearing on their ability to do so? It's one game, and it's not even the best Zelda game (that would be Link to the Past). Besides, younger players likely have difficulty looking past the ugly polygons of the N64/PSONE era, because they were awkward and ugly, especially considering the elegant simplicity of the representation of the 8-bit era, the beautiful sprites of the 16-bit era, and the vastly superior, infinitely less buggy renderings of subsequent generations.

Ultimately, of course recognition of landmarks and significant achievements of the past is important, and I don't think anyone would argue that Ocarina is anything other than a masterful achievement of the past. But must someone claim that they actually enjoy those landmarks today? To use your analogy to film, in order to be a "film buff", do you have to claim that you still enjoy Metropolis, or can someone recognize its importance while still admitting it's a little hard to watch after being exposed to modern film-making techniques (and... you know... "talkies")? In film as in video games, there's a word for people who require that you profess a love for antiquated, awkward relics from previous eras in order to be a "true" connoisseur of the medium: snobs. Don't be a snob, dude. Alienation and exclusion are not good for the medium.

Deus Ex: Invisible War was a very good game. Contrariwise, the original Deus Ex is not nearly as good as everyone seems to think.

There has not been a single good Red Faction game.

Bethesda did not ruin Fallout.

I'll think of more later.

Duke Nukem Forever is not a step down... because Duke Nukem was NEVER good.

If it wasn't for the gore, Mortal Kombat would be dismissed as the mediocre fighter it was.

Games I'm tired of hearing about: Minecraft. Planescape: Torment. Skyrim. Team Fortress 2. League of Legends. Stalker.

FFX2 I found to be a decent, fun game but apparently it should be burned with fire and never should've existed.

I'm sure there's more but nothing comes to mind atm.

The Half-Life Series is overrated.
Loved the first one, but HL2? I agree so hard it hurts. Waaaaay too short, spent nearly all the game in that stupid buggy thing. Boring/extremely traditional weaponry. Silent (boring) protagonist. Bland environments.

I find myself getting quite grumpy when I see HL2 in the top three slot of game magazines "top 100 awards".

Oh yeah, and I enjoyed FFX-2.

I have no qualms with quick time events save for the ones that surprise you in the middle of a cutscene. Games that train you to know when to expect a QTE do it right, and QTE boss fights aren't a big problem to me either.
