Generally if you crush on someone at any point during your teenage years you WILL experience this.

In fact that's really all I've got to offer. One crush was an attention whore, one was a bit too dedicated to sport and a bit too self-deprecating...

Your right, it did. I'm not sure why you would do that sir, you are a very strange person :p
Simply because I am a horrible, horrible person.
The best kind of person.

But enough of my personal disdain for for people who claim to be good.
OT: I dunno, I tend to avoid this by assuming that everyone is an unrepentant dick. Keep smiling.

This sometimes is proved wrong, but the irritation of being wrong is balanced out by meeting someone likeable. Exaple: my boyfriend. Online, nice guy. Bit worried about meeting. Then we do and he's even better. A godly geek.

Yes, it happens all the time.

It's happened with girls I've had crushes on, friends, family.

You name it. Hell I even know a person who's unattractive both physically and personality-wise. Speaking in terms of personality, she's completely paranoid, hates anyone who doesn't listen to the exact same types of music she does and will openly admit her involvement in a "gang" which basically just meets every now and then and talks about what they hate about people, people who they usually don't even know.

That may not sound TOO bad, but trust, once you meet this person... *Shudders*

Naturally, she chooses me to stalk on Facebook. Okay, I'm done being an un-accepting prick.

Also, turns out my stepbrother is a racist.

I'm just wondering what drew you to this conclusion? Not that it's wrong... ¬_¬

Like some people have mentioned, most people at school get unusually high amounts of respect/awe/whatever for being a dick.

I have met people like that but never been personally disappointed in a scenario that you describe.

Well one of my friends had a friend on Xbox Live who was pretty funny, but it turned out later that he was extremely racist.
Your friend was surprise to find someone racist on XBL?

Discussion Question: Have you found yourself meeting an exceptional person who you later found to have some serious personal flaws under the surface? What did you think when you found out? How much did this discovery disturb you or affect your relations with this person?
We do this because we're jealous.
We deliberately hunt for the flaws of that person.

My example is an 'loose friend' of mine whom learned Japanese solely due to her mental illness of some sickness that I can't recall, but it allows her to pretty much nerd ANYTHING she wants until she masters it.

She learned japanese by watching one anime episode over and over and over until she could memorize all the lines in it fluently and what they meant.
That might be true on a subconscious level, though I personally would like to think that I am above those kinds of petty motivations. I'd at least hope I had more self-esteem than that, anyway.

As for your friend, that's quite an impressive skill. I kinda wish I could do something like that so I didn't have to go digging through boxes to find all my old Japanese stuff. The fact that i'd want to use such a skill to re-learn Japanese is merely a coincidence.
