I hopefully this game doesn't have a weird ass ending like in the first game. These developers also made Nier and that was their last game too.
this ending makes no sense and also I've never played any of Drakengard games.
That brought back all those memories of giant flying baby genocide... good times.
It's one of those games that you deal with repetitive gameplay and grinding just to see how fucked up the world gets and how most of your characters deal with it.
There's this elf chick that saw her family die by soldiers and right before she dies as well(I think there was an undertone of rape as well that was censored out of the non-Japanese versions, but I could be wrong), she makes a deal with some spirits to save her life through a soul contract. The price of the contract was her uterus so she can never bear children again... not that it matters because all that devastation, torture, loss and grief made her completely insane and she is now completely obsessed with children... killing them(and eating them in the Jap version I hear).
She's my favorite character.
Oh and flying in jet a classic dark fantasy setting is awesome(only for the patient people who love the game enough to seclude themselves away with the game and perform sacred rituals to the gods of grinding and proudly says these things as if it were something positive).
EDIT:

Having played both games, I can tell you that the first one had five endings, with that being one of the more... insane ones.
Granted, I love Drakengard, but it was really dark and flat out insane at points. Insane in the "these people need to get their brains checked out" way.
Drakengard 2 is far less dark and insane.
That was a major failing from the Devs in my opinion and the main reason I rate it far below Drakengard 1(I'll admit to several gameplay improvements though). The focus on a younger cast of characters was another misstep in my opinion.
I've also been spoiled by Angelus and her English voice actor (a complement I normally never give to English voice acting in a Japanese game) so Legna, the lame blue dragon with the lame plot twist couldn't hope to be compared positively when standing next to Angelus.
...I really hated one part in the game but finally unlocked my revenge alternate ending!
