I will probably buy it just to support the concept and development of such projects. I dont think it would take much after this to actually learn an instrument from a video game. You could have DLC that changes the rolling dots to rolling music notes, and include instructions for that.

Hmm... I already jam along to nearly every song I listen to, I don't really know how much more this can offer me. I mean, I could just play my regular guitar right?

I doubt I'll buy this at any rate, it'll be expensive as hell, and I'd rather spend the money on a new, real guitar!

While this sounds like a cool idea. But can you actually learn to play the guitar this way?

Maybe what would have been a good option to offer would have been some kind of attachment that could read what you were doing on your own real guitar, and feed that info back to the game, therefore cutting out the need for a vastly expensive peripheral, as by the sound of it, its mostly of interest to guitar players and those who want to learn but don't want the tedium of grinding up past level 2 :)

I asked my friend one time why people who enjoy GH/RB don't play real instruments. He said some people love rhythm games but hate the actual guitars and what not. So at this point, I have to ask: Will anyone playing these have an excuse to not just learn a real instrument instead?

Oh, for God's sake. I played without teacher or theory practice, is this what all my hard work has come down to? Well, fine, if the "competition" comes, bring it on. *plays Mr. Crowley solo*

Also, the flaws: The strings will sound like a real guitar which distracts, those that won't pick up the real thing is going to give up by all the practice it takes, and there won't be a sequel, because anyone who's mastered the game will then have gone out and started a band. Seriously, just get a real guitar. Don't get me wrong, Guitar Hero is really fun, I just wish it had more Dragonforce songs, but this is just outright silly.

Also, they want to "revive" the genre, but this looks like it might actually hurt it.

Real electric guitatrs aren't all that expensive. Unless you are looking into the high end name brands you can get a half decent electric guitar for under 100 bucks.

Those skiving off on the 'well why not screw it and play a real guitar'

I'm shocked at you, are you not gamers!? This is how we roll guys, this 'real guitar' will have a little carrot with a sting at the end of it called a GAME pushing us to learn the guitar chords to complete it. I feel excited... Heck if all my homework was in 'game' format I'd probably be the Albert Einstein of this generation.

I think it's a great idea, and while I can see the pitfalls in money and appeal, I think I could be pursueded to get it...and chuck out that annoying hunk of plastic I haven't used in almost a year.

And like stated it doesn't teach you to read music etc... But hey...you want an online addon with that later once you can't get enough of this? Well throw it on there man.
Skys the limit, and I like the direction this is going.

Uhh, people like guitar hero because it's simple and gives the feeling of playing a song without having to actually play it.

This will just be like playing a guitar with the television telling you how much you suck when you fail.

I see this not working as well as they hope.

Coming soon... Power Gig: Drummer Edition.

Featuring Neil Peart, Joey Jordison and John Bonham with only one difficulty mode: "Very Easy".

Because no one would get past that.

They should market this as a way to learn guitar. Make it so that the easiest is just really simple and the hardest is actually playing. That could work. I wonder what it'll cost and if they'll also sell a "Special Edition" with a lefty.
Edit; A bass one would be tops though. Featuring John Deacon, Dorian Heartsong, Sean Yseult, and Paul Mccartney.
I bet all most nobody recognizes any but one of those names.

I've been waiting for something like this for ages! It would be a pity if you had to buy the entire guitar - that will push the price waaay over the top. Ideally, it would have a lead that would let you plug any electric guitar into it (it could pick up the notes you play like an electronic tuner). Or failing that, just a pickup that you could stick on a guitar.

Really want this to be successful, have a horrible feeling that it will either be too complicated or seriously flawed. I wouldn't be convinced that the guitar hero market will go for it either - after all, guitar hero is more like DDR than it is like actually playing a guitar in many ways.

Um... what happened to the previous two games that were supposed to do the same? Guitar Rising & that other one that Disney was producing/publishing?

This could have great potential for being a guitar learning game! I mean you can learn a song on the game and since you can actually plug the guitar into an amp you can play it anywhere too!
Lets just hope they make the songs play like they do in real life. Plus all of those Guitar Hero
haters will finally have a Guitar Hero they could actually play. It's a good idea, lets just hope Seven45 pulls it off.

*EDIT* Also for those Guitar Hero fans who most likely won't buy the game solely because it requires playing REAL guitar, give it a shot. Maybe you can LEARN.
