[UPDATE] Leaked L.A. Noire Trailer Reveals Serial Killers, Release Date
Rockstar Games' latest trailer for L.A. Noire has been leaked early, revealing the game's release date and a couple of spooky serial killers.
Though Rockstar Games has been criticized for taking so long to develop crime thriller L.A. Noire [http://www.amazon.com/Noire-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0HBZW], the game is looking like it'll be worth the wait. Rockstar intended to release L.A. Noire's latest trailer on January 24, but it somehow hit the streets a little early.
The trailer takes a darker turn than previous efforts, featuring the voices of what sound like two different serial killers players will encounter in the game. The first says he doesn't know the names of the women he's killed, but he's killed quite a few. The second says the world is "only temporary," so he's killing people to help them be together. Two creeps.
We also get a few more details of how at least a part of L.A. Noire's story will play out. The LAPD discovers the bodies of multiple women that they believe could be the work of a serial killer, or a copycat. The killer is sending cryptic messages to the police that feature the old-school style of cutting out different types of letters from magazines.
The main character evidently gets mixed up with a female singer that his partner says is "trouble." Very noir-ish. L.A. Noire's vaunted interrogation system [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106234-Rockstar-L-A-Noire-the-Flashpoint-Thatll-Blur-Games-and-Movies] is included just briefly, but the trailer still shows some of the nuances of those being questioned with their slight eye and mouth movements. This is all in-game footage.
For now, Rockstar has allowed the trailer to remain on YouTube, but there's no telling if it might come down soon (Update: It's gone). The big reveal at the end is that L.A. Noire will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 17, 2011 (Update: In North America). Finally.
Update: Rockstar has released the official version of this L.A. Noire trailer, which confirms the North American release date of May 17 and reveals a May 20 release for Europe. It's available to view and won't come down this time.
