[UPDATE] Leaked L.A. Noire Trailer Reveals Serial Killers, Release Date

Rockstar Games' latest trailer for L.A. Noire has been leaked early, revealing the game's release date and a couple of spooky serial killers.

Though Rockstar Games has been criticized for taking so long to develop crime thriller L.A. Noire [http://www.amazon.com/Noire-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0HBZW], the game is looking like it'll be worth the wait. Rockstar intended to release L.A. Noire's latest trailer on January 24, but it somehow hit the streets a little early.

The trailer takes a darker turn than previous efforts, featuring the voices of what sound like two different serial killers players will encounter in the game. The first says he doesn't know the names of the women he's killed, but he's killed quite a few. The second says the world is "only temporary," so he's killing people to help them be together. Two creeps.

We also get a few more details of how at least a part of L.A. Noire's story will play out. The LAPD discovers the bodies of multiple women that they believe could be the work of a serial killer, or a copycat. The killer is sending cryptic messages to the police that feature the old-school style of cutting out different types of letters from magazines.

The main character evidently gets mixed up with a female singer that his partner says is "trouble." Very noir-ish. L.A. Noire's vaunted interrogation system [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106234-Rockstar-L-A-Noire-the-Flashpoint-Thatll-Blur-Games-and-Movies] is included just briefly, but the trailer still shows some of the nuances of those being questioned with their slight eye and mouth movements. This is all in-game footage.

For now, Rockstar has allowed the trailer to remain on YouTube, but there's no telling if it might come down soon (Update: It's gone). The big reveal at the end is that L.A. Noire will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 17, 2011 (Update: In North America). Finally.

Update: Rockstar has released the official version of this L.A. Noire trailer, which confirms the North American release date of May 17 and reveals a May 20 release for Europe. It's available to view and won't come down this time.

is it just me or does LA Noire seem to have been in development for a long time?

Oh, this looks awesome.

Man, you gotta love Rockstar at times.

Of course, it still could fail spectacularly and I think it will in sales, but Rockstar can tell a good story and this looks like a damn good setting for them.

Count me in.

I fucking love Rockstar. This looks absolutely great, it's interesting and different. I was suprised that it's release date is May 17. I thought it would be later than that!

They expected Red Dead Redemption to not do so well, now look at it :p
I think it'll be fine. I hope. I really hope...

OT: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Take 2 Games"

Well balls. Wait, I though Rockstar was publishing this? Whats Take 2 doing?

Oh. My God.

I had my eyes on it since 2006 and the first trailer, and looks like it was worth it. If I had to pick only one game to buy in 2011, then sorry ME3, MvC3, The Witcher II and TES: V, but L.A. Noire would be that game. I love America's 20's-50's. I love detective stories. And now it looks more and more like my favorite game ever (Heavy Rain), so adding the solidness of the teams under Rockstar, gives me a killer shake made from my favorite ingredients...

Awesome, definitely Day 1 purchase.

Yeah, I thought of that example, too.

But RDR is still has a lot in common with that other Rockstar franchise and is set in a very popular yet not too explored setting in gaming.

L.A. Noire is more Heavy Rain territory, only a lot more disturbing. Heavy Rain sold fairly well, yes, but I don't see that many people this game could appeal to.

Well, me... It appeals to me. So bying this.

The trailer is awesome. The one that's linked here is gone though, you need to go to Youtube, search for it and sort the results by date. There's a bunch of them having been added just an hour or so ago and one of them might still be online.

First Duke, then this...

There are way too many oft delayed games coming out in May. I don't know if my wallet will be able to survive the flood of games that's heading our way...

Not that I'm complaining, of course.

Is there a game that lets me play as one? Is that how Manhunt works?
You are a serial killer in every shooter ever made, they just don't point that out...

Interesting tech they used, but hmm... it's more or less film, so it's probably not reusable to construct other conversations (I can always be wrong tho).
