One guy against the internet ? Hope his folks like him extra crispy.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Unless you are Pixar's Cars, the majority of money you make come from the first few weeks of viewings. The amount of money you are gonna lose after that is next to irrelevant. Think about it. The Dark Knight got pirated I don't know how many times and it still managed to make over 1 billion.

If you want people to stop pirating films, drop the prices in cinemas and stop giving green light to every piece of crap film that knocks your door! But nope, instead, we have to pay from 9 to 13 euros to sit through stuff like this:

When you start putting quantity above quality, people will filter your movies and decide which one is worth their time. Don't pretend that all you want to do is look after your job. After comments like these (which kind of remind me threats for protection money in ghettos), we know that all you wanna do is keep your chair warm. You are the chief of movie publishing, in a sense. You have absolutely nothing to do with the creative part. So go get stuffed.

On a lighter note, the first petition sign belongs to a guy by the surname Denton. Nice to see that JC thinks this is a conspiracy.

Bribery? It's the day-to-day workings of a corrupt corporate-government symbiosis, and he is, unfortunately, above the law. Why single him out when this happens every damn day in Washington?
It's the only outlet of frustration available. Not the most effective though and unfortunately we cannot vote him out of a company.

Who in his right mind would speak his anger out like that? He sorta asked for it - it was like watching a baby whine. Dodd should have swallowed his anger, go back to the drawing board and repackage the whole thing.

Petition signatures reached. Success!

These corrupt monkeys need a *****-slap-and-a-half. Who puts these people in power? Oh wait, the monkeys pay other monkeys who are halfways respected due to corruption. This system is bad.

I signed, power to the people baby! Die, Corporate America Die! Lets get back to when you know...it was harder to bribe politicians.
That would be when there were no politicians, right?
Zing!

OT; I think it's already gotten above the amount of signatures it needed to pass. As of late, it seems like the people are really getting back at these assholes in power.

Somehow I doubt a bribery investigation is going to get anywhere anytime soon though. Not because of any global conspiracy, but because in all likelihood he didn't even need to resort to illegal measures in order to get his point - and his money - across.
Well that is the hilarious thing here, how will you prove bribery when it's been integral to whole American political system for decades.
You just use a politically correct term "donations" and you can buy off any politician you need.

"How do we sign!!"

I'm shocked and appalled that there is no YouTube clip from that episode of Futurama ("The Problem With Popplers", in case someone wants to make one ;) ).

At least the petition has well over the amount needed now.

Sounds like what Graham and the EC crew said about E3.

lol

Let us investigate them too!
ESA=/=Federal Government. Nice false equivalency though.

So lemme get this straight.. the folks who signed this petition think that somebody.. anybody.. donates to a political cause without having some sort of political cause (aka policy goal) in mind, and Dodd is thus somehow immoral and wrong for saying so?
It's almost like some people are tired of their government being owned by special interest groups and lobbyists. Anyone remember that 'pizza is a vegetable' debacle recently? You can thank lobbyists for that.

It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information and use their services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these companies enjoy in the marketplace today. It?s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.
"Don't ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don't pay any attention to me when my job is at stake."

I thank yew.

Chris Dodd was a big supporter of SOPA.

Former senator Chris Dodd left office in January, 2011. A month later, he was hired on as the president of the Motion Picture Association of America; so it's not surprising to hear that the man was a big supporter of the Stop Online Piracy Act.
Wow... wonder what this amazing, petitioned-for investigation will likely turn up(!!!!)

Last week, Dodd implied that Obama would have a much tougher time raising money in Hollywood after he publicly stated he planned to veto SOPA if it passed. "Those who count on quote 'Hollywood' for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who's going to stand up for them when their job is at stake," Dodd told Fox News. "Don't ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don't pay any attention to me when my job is at stake."
Fair comment, to be honest! Why wouldn't/shouldn't anyone who supports SOPA make similar comments, since they likely also fall into the "Piracy is destroying the entertainment industry" camp.

What's wrong with voting/supporting the politicians/parties that are (in your opinion!) supporting the industry you work in, and protecting it, and thereby your job?

Not to defend this man, but is this really a bribery case? I thought every election was funded by private companies and lobbyists. The republicans taking money from oil companies and Democrats being funded by hollywood (apparently).

Of course, I'm an ignorant Brit so may be grasping the wrong end of a completely different stick. Feel free to quote me and call me a buffoon.

You're about correct. Just about every form of the federal government here runs on corruption and bribery along with threats to withhold election money should their votes fail to fall in line properly. And it's all 100% legal, that Citizens United ruling just made it more obvious.

No matter how many signatures you get on this petition, I bet you just get some sort of BS automated response from some low-level flunky about how wonderful Dodd is and how they will effectively do nothing to him. The ruling class won't prosecute themselves for something they all do.

Doesn't that kinda make this whole petition ridiculous though. The internet community is fine with everyone doing it (or, they at least don't protest it). But someone does something irrelevant that they disagree with so they try to punish this one guy for it. The law doesn't, and shouldn't, work like that. The law applies to everyone or no one, not just the people you don't like.

Hooray, the petition passed! Now we just have to wait until- oh, what's that? He bribed everyone involved with the investigation? Cleared of all charges, you say? As powerful as ever, and with a vendetta against the Internet, you say? Well, darn. Oh well, back to work, everyone.
