There's been a rash of unwarranted sequels to classics lately: Indiana Jones, Tron, etc. Even Telltale's gotten into the act with Back to the Future. I don't want to give Hollywood any more bad ideas than they already have, but I'm curious: what would other classic movies look like if they were made today? By "classic," I mean well-known movies at least 20 years old.

Here's one I thought of:
The Princess Bride
"Buttercup" is the nickname of a modern high schooler/college student in New York. She wants a career as a politician, but falls in love along the way with Westley. When she receives news of his death fighting Muslim terrorists, she marries a local politician to get ahead and the plot proceeds as normal. Fezzik could still be a pro wrestler, Inigo would turn into a token black sidekick, and Vizzini would be a crime boss.

Not great, but it's just off the top of my head.

Predator 3, produced by someone who isn't going to give it a horrible script, who isn't going to hire a director who is so aroused by the original that he feels the need to copy scenes shot for shot from the original, who wont cast actors that can't act, and has enough respect for the source material to try to add more, not needlessly copy from it and yet somehow fail.

No, they're making episodic games.

That's not so bad... I mean, it could be a lot worse, really.

I think if people are going to remake anything, they shouldn't remake anything considered a classic. Instead, they should remake films that had good ideas but were deeply flawed the first time around, that way the potential for improvement is far greater than if you remake something already considered near-flawless.

Also, country A should never attempt to remake country B's films. That never ends well.

With all that in mind, remakes I'd definitely support:

Rollerball - keep the same plot, just add cinematography that doesn't look like crap and modern effects. It would work. Probably the only film someone like Michael Bay could do well.
Citizen Kane - preferably with Gamera, anything to make it interesting.
Westworld - see Rollerball.
When You Coming Back, Red Ryder? - dunno what you could do to save this one. Make it not boring, I guess.
Easy Rider - Jack Nicholson could play his part again, he'd be much more convincing as a biker at his current vintage. Also, set it on the moon for bigger jumps.
Caligula - practically a porno anyway, I think the crew from I Hit It With My Axe should have a stab at this but instead of acting out the parts themselves they can roleplay it with figurines. The Sword can once again provide the soundtrack.
