Updates that made games worse

So I was playing Batman: Arkham City (pc) and everything was fine. No trouble loading, no bugs, so I counted myself lucky because of all the trouble this game has had on pc. So I was going to play the game today when a message came up from GFWL that I had to download an update. Fine, it wasn't the first time, took a few minutes to download, but hey, it would be worth while if it were to make the game better, right?

Wrong. Because when I started the game up again, it tried to sign into GFWL (I have that on automatic) and it gave a few sputters, jammed, and now it's constantly stuck on the ''Signing in'' screen. Can't stop it and play the game offline, because of the auto-sign in, can't even close the GFWL screen. This I find to be really annoying, because now I can't play the game I want to, which isn't even a week old wet because some idiots over at Microsoft can't do their job properly.

So what's your experience in the matters?

This has happened to me in the past but not especially often. More often than not, a patch will fuck up some kind of third party setup I have or break mods.
This is hugely frustrating when it happens though. It is part of the reason why 'always on' DRM that forces you to update can be so brutal. This is why I have my HD set to save old versions of files in case a patch kills a game.

Every time TF2 gets updated it breaks the game in some way. A few weeks ago it made it to where any server with pumpkins couldn't run, and for a while now I've only been able to play it on my Windows because my Mac version will freeze as soon as I join a server.
