Upgrading my laptop's processor

Ok so I'm thinking of swapping out my ASUS g60vx's intel core 2 duo (2.13 ghz per core) with a core 2 quad (2 ghz per core ) and everything looks like it's compatible, except one spec-the maximum TDP of my current CPU is 25W, but the max tdp of the new one would be 45W.

So basically, 2 questions-1.) What is TDP? I looked it up and it said it had something to do with cooling and 2.) will it be a problem?

First of all - can you actually do that? Is the processor supported by your laptop?

I know for a fact that I can switch my T8600 for a P9300, because it was supported (it was an option to begin with).

You might want to double check the BIOS whitelist as well, as it is the most common thing to stop users from swapping their hardware.
