An example of an urban legend would be The Jersey Devil or something like that. Or as someone mentioned, alligators in the sewer would be another example.
Where I live there is a creature called the Nain Rouge, meaning Red Dwarf in French. Supposedly there has been sightings of it since Detroit was a French Fort. Every time it is seen something bad happens to the city. Like the Red Dwarf of the Apocalypse or something. It is described as a furry little beast man type thing.
