ok, so my computer's sound no longer works. I used to use a usb device to insert my mic/speaker plugs into, but that thing broke (i think i kicked it or something, it's where i rest my feet when i'm on the computer) so now i'm attempting to use the normal plugs, but it's not working and i have no clue WHY!

help!

my speakers broke on my home computer, and i always confuse the input/output plugs for microphones. probably not helpful, but have some sympathy candy.

I know this is really stupid, but have you gone into the volume control and checked ALL the different sliders?

If he says "no" then I'm going to laugh, hard.

try the volume thing first

if that doesn't work, go into the bios and ensure that the onboard sound is enabled, assuming you're using onboard sound.

This, device drivers, device selection in Windows sound options, power button, cup holder, etc. etc.

Did you try using a headset?

That's what I use.
i have.
i was looking at a uh like audio jack program that was on the computer, apparently it recognizes that there is stuff plugged in, (i even did a sound test and noises did come out) but when i tried something else nothing worked

If speakers and headsets don't work, perhaps your computer's sound card is broken. Find some computer buff and ask them to check out the inside of the computer tower.

Tech support action mode GO!!

1. Reinstall the drivers, either from the CD that came with your compy or from the manufacturer's website

2. If #1 fails, pull out the sound card (if it isn't integrated in your MOBO) and put it into a different PCI slot. Then repeat step 1.

That's about all I've got. Not knowing tech specs on your PC I can't really tell if these will work. The driver reinstall won't hurt anything but if you don't feel comfortable pulling out the card and moving it then get someone who knows PC hardware to do it for you. Hopefully the drivers things will work, it takes 0 effort and only takes about 5 minutes.
