Joke about bombing America in the bar: Just a joke about bombing America.

Joke about bombing America on Twitter: Destroying a Terrorist bomb network before it can act.
Indeed. If I ever go to america I will post something like this on facebook just to see what happens. If I am detained, I will laugh in their faces and ask where the hidden camera is. When they tell me it is not a hidden camera show, I will tell them that they are sad and out of touch and refuse to answer anything more.

The Sun is only good for some boobies!

This story is hilarious, even when taking it with a pinch of Sun salt.

After reading the Sun article, I am inclined to think they locked him up because of the Monroe joke. Who ever knew they still adored her?

I'm going to the states for GDC in a month-ish and I know that when I have to take off my shoes at security, I'm going to have to REALLY resist the urge to say "Careful with my shoes... they're the bomb".

He looks like a fucking Hipster, that would be enough of a reason to keep him out of a country... Her on the other hand, don't have much to complain about... Althouhgh that picture is the most posed guilt picture I've ever seen.

You joke about killing my family you can bet you aren't going to be invited to my house... especially if of recent someone in my family has been murdered and there are people out there still seeking to attack us.

I can see the same principal applying with any country.

All the sources listed are shady tabloids, not really sources of any sort of accurate news. If you think FOX news is accurate, then these are remarkably less than satisfactory in comparison.
FOX News is so bad, it is even famous around here. FOX News makes a habit of twisting every bit of news with an unprecedented bias until it becomes something else completely.

As far as this story goes. It seems to me it is a pretty 1-on-1 translation of how the events played out. Unless all those tabloids forgot to mention something important.

You think it's funny to be a dick and joke about digging up dead bodies? People dig up dead bodies, and it's a sick and twisted event.

You think it's funny say you want to destroy a country?
No, but...

...but what about 'Free Speech'?

Better off just not quoting me if you don't realize what or how this is wrong to do.
Too later for that now. :)

Why can't people realize that once they type something, it becomes immortalized in cyberspace forever?

Stop being spoiled brats, and start becoming responsible adults that are held accountable for your words.

How have you not realized that it isn't okay to threaten this kinda shit on a country? What is fundamentally wrong with you that you don't know this kind of shit isn't going to be tolerated?
I do agree with you here, but it happens all the time, everywhere. Although, that is not a good excuse.

Realize that what you might think you're intending is not what the majority of others perceive. Then go the extra step and realize that you are not the normal factor to determine what the masses should feel and realize by yours or anyones idiotic texting. Then realize that some really fucked up people type some fucked up shit and that they have no place here/and should be dealt with in a like manner.
Ah, now we are getting to the interesting bit. You do not have to take into account that other people might misunderstand you UNLESS those other people are your audience. If you post a tweet, it is only important your followers understand the post, not the rest of the world. I know the rest of the world can read your tweets, but that isn't relevant here.

With the "internet generation" you got all sorts of weird terms and old terms with a new meaning, a lot of other people (from older generations) might misinterpret you. But you can't please everyone.

There is free speech, yes. And no, that is no excuse to act like a dick and say everything you want. But there is a very big gray area in which it isn't always clear what the intentions of the person was. If he was being a giant ass or if he was just being misunderstood because things work differently in his part of the world. (Not saying that is the case here.)

Lastly I'll give a small example. I can't recall the details, but I could look into them if you want. Anyhow, in France they have a sign which states that something is utterly garbage. That same sign is used in another country to say something was perfectly fine. Now a person from that other country visits a French restaurant (in France). And after eating the food he makes *that* sign. See where I am going with this?

EDIT: Oh yeah, why are you trying to compare a guy who was told multiple times, that what he was doing was wrong, then making multiple attempts to do that same wrong again, was then released by his native country to the country that told him not to break the law multiple times, is in any way a comparison here?
Well, they are both from the UK. I think the US overstepped their boundaries here, in this case. And with the joke Tweet the US overreacted, IMO.

Can't say I'd care, personally. If I ever go overseas it sure as hell won't be to America anyway.

OT: I lied. I have nothing on topic to discsuss.

Usually I'd be one of the first people to scream about the tyranny of our power and money maddened government, but you know what? These guys were kinda douchebags to begin with. I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing if I were in charge of keeping people out of the country.

By the time that happens though, maybe Harper will have turned Canada into a US clone... >_<

And then we'll all have to move to Sweden.

regardless...

You think it's funny to be a dick and joke about digging up dead bodies? People dig up dead bodies, and it's a sick and twisted event.

Your idiot words can, and will, be heard by others when you send them out onto the world.

Why can't people realize that once they type something, it becomes immortalized in cyberspace forever?

Stop being spoiled brats, and start becoming responsible adults that are held accountable for your words.
They joked to eachother. Publicly yes, but I tell stupid jokes in public to my friends too. Being held accountable is one thing, but barring them? Its an overreaction. Especially seeing as being a dick isn't a crime.

(There, argument for them that didn't involve free speech. Fun fun)

Edit: If anythings more disheartening, its the people saying "well this would be wrong, but they seem like douchebags so its ok". What the fuck? Really? Saying an unfair punishment is fair simply because you don't like someone is completely crazy.

Edit Edit:

Actually go read what he said

Seriously people, the language he used is actually typical of an English "lad". Its a saying that doesn't mean what you think it means, that is all.

It seems America can always be relied on for comedic stupidity and paranoia. This will be on a cracked article one day.

EDIT: I am not familiar with UK news sites. So, I don't know which are 'respectable'. But it seems, from the posts here, The Sun has a bad reputation. Well, let me link a few more news sites then...

Daily Mail [http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2093796/British-tourists-arrested-America-terror-charges-Twitter-jokes.html]
The Register [http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/01/30/tweet_deportation/]
The Blaze [http://www.theblaze.com/stories/report-dhs-expels-2-brits-from-america-over-destroy-america-tweet/]
Huffington Post [http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/01/30/leigh-van-bryan-and-emily-bunting-banned-from-entering-us-after-twitter-joke-about-destroying-america_n_1241104.html]
The Daily Mail is just as bad as the Sun! (And the two often feed off each other.)

The Register and the Huffington Post are only news aggregators. One of them is re-reporting the story from the Sun, and the other is doing it from the Daily Mail.

Never heard of the Blaze before. But the key line in their article is "according to the Daily Mail". So - again - they aren't actually verifying the story themselves, just re-reporting it.

Basically, this looks like some nonsense the Sun and the Daily Mail have concocted.

(FWIW: The standard reliable UK news site is the BBC [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news].)

The Blaze is Glen Becks' newsletter, I believe. All in all, sounds like a bit of an overreaction and sensationalism all around.
