has anyone moved to the US via a fiance visa before? I've been looking at the site with my fiance while i was there for 3 months (just came home today) but the laout and information they provide isnt exactly clear and not all the information we need is listed (like form prices).

I was wondering if anyone else has experience in doing this that could give me a run down of how it works and what to expect since I don't know anyone whos been through it.

Your best bet for accurate information is to visit the US Department of State website [http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.html].

We've been looking there, but as I said not all the information we need is there. For example the information I'll need to gather for the packets before the interviews isn't there and pricing for some of the forms she needs to file arn't there either.

It's easiest just to marry within the foreign country and then just sort out the stuff afterward.

You guys are engaged right? Do you want to get married, go back to your home country for a bit and then live with your wife in the USA? Or do you want to get married in the USA and stay there from then on?

Option one: file an I130 for an immigration number, and then obtain a (temporary) permanent residency visa

Option two: get a K1 (or is it K2?) visa which gives you 90 days until after you enter the US to get married

You must stay married for 2 years otherwise you'll probably get deported. Oh and you must file to change your temporary permanent residency into full residency before your two year anniversary

Don't go anywhere other than the USCIS website. They'll likely charge you for anything. All you need is on there. Forms are listed there (search for them) as are in most cases separate pdfs containing instructions.

And be prepared to spend a lot of money.

its option 2 we are looking at. She cant leave the US until her kids are 18 (9 years from now) and plus i really like living over there with her. Could you maybe pm me with a run down of how the process went for you?

Glad to see someone cares about coming in legally... Fcking illegals.. I got nothing against immigrants but when you come here just for the better wages and send all the money home.. YOUR DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO HELP OUR ECONOMY OR OUR COUNTRY.. YOUR JUST A LEECH LEECHING OFF OUR COUNTRY... Now people who come legally i welcome you with open arms! But no i dont know.. Governments are stupidly complicated.. Your better off going to a forum that actually cares and or knows what there talking about..

I don't really care about illegals living here, as long as they don't use my social services. People are just people, and country borders is just political shit.

Before this turns into a discussin about illegals I'd just like to remind any future posters to please keep it on the topic of helping provide me with some more information about what is needed to get a K1/2 visa, the costs of how much the foms and information are to get and such like.

Immigration sucks ass. I moved here with my mother after she married my step-father (who is American) and we applied for citizenship right away. Six years later we're still not real citizens and all that. Fuck it, go illegals I completely understand why they do this shit now. The people who are in charge of the immigration work are almost as big assholes as the airport security staff. They talk to you like you're a complete moron who can't understand basic English even if you're more fluent in it then they are, they can be such condescending cunts when it comes to the interviewing too.
That's bureaucracy in a nutshell.

Umm you realise we (modern countries in general) leeched off of other countries via slaves, stealing their stuff and crap for a fair few years?

It is stupid and ineffective. Maybe I'd be able to answer their questions better if their hours weren't from 4AM-9AM.
I completely agree, it is stupid and ineffective. However no one has had the courage to form a better option, thus far it gets the job done no matter how poorly and that pleases them even if it aggravates us.

And only five hours? Christ in a handbasket, that's just bullshit. I expect more from the government than just five hours, I expect at least twenty hours.

That's not the best part. At one point they told us we couldn't proceed without a form and that we needed to call someone to get the form. We called the guy and they told us no we didn't need the form. So we called the first people and asked them what the hell? Another person answered the phone this time and told us that the form didn't even exist.
It'd be kinda nice if they could at least have their shit together on top of the stupid hours and frustrating personnel.
I'm starting to wonder if they outsourced to India with even this and skimming off the top while they're at it.

The problem with this is that the people working this kind of a job probably don't even deserve to. Like how stores will hire anyone who can pronounce a product's name, but know nothing about it. The same essentially applies to this, and I think that's because the demand for this job is so very low that they'll settle for whoever can pick their nose and answer a phone at the same time.

Still, they could work harder at educating them and keeping tabs on them. At least then it makes sense to wiretap the phones. This incompetency makes me wonder where the tax dollars are honestly going.

Yeah, we've reached a point where the immigrants know more about the country then the people in charge of asking the immigrants about it.
I can't believe how true that statement is. It's so very sad, hell I bet the average immigrant knows more than the average American born and that's because they do. Immigrants would have to in order to get into this country, I don't see why we should give them a hard time about the paperwork. As far as I'm concerned immigrants earned their passage.

Yup, they know more then pretty much any standard American will learn in a public high school. Why? Because they're forced to take a test that's full of things they'll never need to know.

Public schools get worse and pump out dumber kids with massive entitlement complexes, more intelligent people willing to work for less come in and then everyone cries about immigrants taking their jerbs.
Well the entitlement thing I can blame liberals on. And then the conservatives finish off by yelling at the immigrants doing jobs that the immigrants are often overqualified for. If the immigrants weren't doing the jobs, I'd bet you no one else would want to.

Exactly. When was the last time you saw someone saying "Alright, I'll get this janitor/fruit picking/whatever menial labor job for a low wage where people will treat me like dirt just so I can survive"? No they'd demand a higher wage and get pissy when people didn't treat them like the god of the fucking sewer.
I know, I was told of a time where a man did his job and did it quietly unless he had reason to voice concern. Not just ***** and moan about every little thing and still get a paycheck.

Heck I remember that guy did everything that was asked of him and when asked by a person where the Pretzel Shop was, he'd take the time to answer them. Not say, "Can't you see I'm on my break?!" and continue his conversation with his buddy when the both of them should be on the clock.

I also remember that guy would be promoted if he did all of that and competently. Not do it when it's convenient and do a poor job at that, yet somehow get promoted.

It's utterly infuriating.

When my wife & I got married, we had a choice between the US (me) and Norway (her). I have to admit that I was glad to get out of the US. I'm a minimalist, and the US was seriously starting to suffocate me with less and less rights every year. And after 9/11 things began their fasttrack to Hell.

Do your nine year sentence, if you have to. Then escape. Unless things change drastically for the better, anyway.
