I am a person who enjoys games and enjoys reading so naturally I love reading about games. I am from Ireland and I get all the latest UK games magazines so I was surprised to find that when I went on holiday to New York, there was a magazine that said on the cover "41 pages, longest edition ever!" and this was coming from a magazine that claimed to completely cover PC games, Xbox 360 games PS3 games and Wii games. Upon my return to my homeland I picked up a copy of games tm and not only did I find that it was 179 pages (no boasting about it either) but the standard of writing was much better. It's not just that magazine either, I could not find a single magazine over 100 pages and I want to know why?

Yeah I live in the UK so I get magazines all the time from Blighty.

If this is games related shouldn't it be in the Gaming discussion forum? Or is this magazines in general?

Well anyway I do enjoy the wit and humour from the British Magazines. Always makes me laugh.

Another day, another verses thread.
Quantity does not mean quality, it could have been 41 pages of gold (unlikely but my point stands).
Although you do raise a good point why, I think because alot of Americans just won't read that much or maybe because it's a weekly magazine and the UK one is monthly. Otherwise I have no idea.

I gave up on magazines, i have friends who still buy them and every time i watch over them its stuff i already know.

I guess its a good read for people who like reading things from paper, or for people who don't have the internet... but for me they're useless.

May not apply to games magazines but it applies to the non gaming ones I read.
UK magazines tend to be at least semi independant entities owned by a publisher. In the US it's not uncommon for a magazine to be owned or part owned by the things it covers. As such they are much more tightly controlled in what they can say and also tend to be treated as the runty offspring rather than part of the business.

The fact that Europe generally reads a lot more than the states is the probable cause.

I get this with Bike magazines, US ones tend to be more advert heavy and (almost) always give glowing reviews of everything. In the UK it's a regular thing to see a review summarised with 'we broke it, it's a pirece of crap, don't buy it,'

I have no idea, the only thing I could think is that there is a specific demand for shorter magazines. It's supply and demand, there are alot of magazines in the uk and they need a lot of content. While in the USA there is a large demand for magazines with very little supply. Thats the only thing I can think of

Your point is actually quite valid.

If you watch a GameTrailers show called Invisible Walls, this subject has been brought up countless times.

Print in the US is very poor and a dying industry (EGM was the biggest gaming magazine in the US and now it's dead and buried). Most people in the US use the internet and gaming websites these days to get their game industry information. Kotaku, Joystique, Gametrailers, Epic Battle Cry, etc.

In the EU however, print on gaming is still strong. Why hasn't the demographic moved on to the internet where the information is free? Who knows, I don't buy print, so I don't know.
