I hate watching England, they demoralise quickly and then you get an hour of feckin' long balls that never amount to anything...you're not going to win anything like that.

Every person I know who loves and knows their football made that assumption it seems, and underestimated them along with everyone else. Regardless, if we kept that mistake of a goal out, sure they could have still scored as they are a good team, but 1-0 seemed likely, especially considering the way both sides played in the second half. England shouldn't have gotten so lax after they scored, but still.

And I still don't understand why Defoe wasn't on instead of Heskey, and Crouch earlier than he got on. It made no sense in a 1-1 situation of that calibre.
Heskey shouldn't be allowed to touch a football in my opinion. Everything he does seems so negative. he hasn't even scored since February. They're using him to hold the ball up to support Rooney, that's something Zamora does well, and he has a rocket of a finish on him, but he gets overlooked due to Tottenham ruining his career by stealing him from us when he wasn't ready to make the step up.
Crouch is awful too. I saw him play down the road at Southampton a few times as a fan of football. He's 6 foot 8 or something and useless in the air. All you need to do to stop him from doing anything is stand a defender behind him.

Didn't the British win Bunker Hill as well? Not a great win, but still 235 years ago...
Well, Bunker Hill was a battle between some bitter British people standing on a hill with shitty weapons and more British people running directly towards them. Noone really won, just a lot of people died on both sides. More people died on the British British side because they were attacking. A quick game of TF2 would prove that's always the case. Imagine Bunker Hill was the second point on Dustbowl, with 2 sentries around the base and the blue team have no medic.

Honestly I don't understand soccer (football for you annoying non Americans =P) you play one and a half hours for 1 point? Talk about a snooze fest. That's just my opinion.
It's better than watching American Football, my god is that sport boring.
If you think NA Football is boring you don't know what's going on. :p

Kinda wish I had a TV to watch the World Cup on, oh well.

What gets me is that the games are so long but in reality there's only a few minutes of actual action, usually around 5%... it's excruciating!

And my god, the ads... so many ads...

Is 5% the official number? haha

I could say the same thing about soccer though. I watched the highlights of the US vs. England game which took about 7 minutes. Decent action, but I imagine the other 83 were spent around midfield.

As for the ads, that's how American television works. It's not the NFL's fault.

Can't argue there, it was a pretty terrible game. England were appaling.

Hellyeah the US tied England and as an American I am pumped. Granted the goal was a major fluke, but the US played well enough. For all of those who watched the match on ABC the British announcer was a biased, arrogant ass. Take that!
No, he was going by the facts (and facts have the annoying tendancy of being biased toward the truth)... England are a better team. You said it yourself... the only goal you got was because of major fluke and America was playing well. So America was playing well and England was playing poorly, you only got a goal from a fluke... and America didnt win. So how was the announcer being arrogant? He was doing his job by making the assumptions he made, he couldnt have expected that goal to go in... you cant predict luck, so minusing the luck factor from the game it would have ended 1-0 to England. He did his job to the best of his ability, dont get pissy because he didnt side with your team and couldnt see how luck was on your side for this match.
the entire match he whined about how the US didn't deserve to even be tied with God's gift to the soccer world: England. Announcers are supposed to be objective if it's broadcasted on a national level. Had it been a British announcer in England he can say whatever, but he was completely biased towards england and gave no credit to the fact that the US actually played alright whereas England played like shit. He was a terrible announcer and whined and complained the entire match, but what else can one expect from the Brits?
You said it yourself, the goal was a fluke... you didnt deserve it.

And what was that last sentence? I couldnt hear your stereotyping for all the burgers you stuffed into your mouth.
what wrong with burgers?

to be honest, it doesn't matter that it was a draw, both teams will go through, watched the other game in the group and Algeria and Slovenia look terrible, both the americans and the English will go through, just who will go through top as neither will want to play the germans after last nights display beating the aussies 4-0

Just sayin'

EDIT: And soccer can be exciting as hell, just not those World Cups, they are boring as hell.
Try watching a game between two teams that are about as good as each other. It can get pretty exciting.

To surprise quite a lot of people here, USA weren't NEARLY as much of an underdog as a lot of people think. They are currently 14th in the FIFA Rankings, the English are 8th. Bearing in mind this is out of 200 odd countries as well.

Either way, I didn't think it was that good a game, a good result for the USA but for us English, the side were not even a shadow of what they were in qualifying and we definitely aren't in World Cup winning form.

I think the Germans or the Spanish are going to win it this year, but I have Ghana in the sweepstakes so I'm all for them doing well :D

Don't know really, I'm assuming England will prevail. I actually watched Doctor Who instead... it was a good episode...
Despite the fact that they were on at different times?

And meh, despite being English I have a rooted dislike of the team (Except Robert Green), and my allegiances have been shifted due to a sweep-stake. I still can't believe I got Switzerland and Serbia
Not to you personally, but to all the dildos who are talking about how they were on at different times, I'M AMERICAN. I TORRENTED THE EPISODE AND WATCHED IT DURING THE FOOTBALL GAME. FUCK.
Ok ok ok ok calm down, it's easy to assume that you were misinformed about the time of the games, that's all. Jeez...

Well as long as it wasn't aimed at me, as although I may have sounded somewhat snide I was merely pointing it out, I'm fine with it

OK, so now I have to make this not be a flame war(if possible, not my intent just very excited). What did you think of the game and what chances do you give both England and USA in a potential title run? Who do you think will win the Cup?

I thought the game was great and neither team will win. The winner of the 2010 World Cup will either be Argentina or the reigning champs:Italy.[/quote]

Have you seen Argentina their run-up matches? Granted they don't say much look at how we beat Denmark with a close 2-0 :S (I'm dutch).

And italy has an aged team. I place my bets on Germany,Spain and The Netherlands(biased).

I'm english, so I expect dissapointment. I never put USA into the winning equation, I still don't. I don't really know much about the quality of the teams, but it seems (to me) like the way the teams were organised into groups was to seperate the good teams and put 1 in each group.

My list being:
Group A - France
Group B - Argentina
Group C - England
Group D - Germany
Group E - ?
Group F - Italy
Group G - Brazil
Group H - Spain

I'll be watching the final, and maybe some england matches later on.. but I'm not that into it.

How can you not have The Netherlands in that poule? Based on the Fifa stats alone... Then again, you probably don't even know us. We're the team with Van Persie and Kuyt...

BLU still capped the point though. Hardly a tie. RED may have taken it back as BLU lost a lot of points, but it's hardly something to YouTube.
