Please help! Every time I connect my Archos 5 or Ipod to my PC, the connection breaks up after about 2 minutes of file transferring. After that te USB doesn't work at all anymore, except for my keyboard and mouse. If I plug the Archos/Ipod in again, the device will not be recognized.

Anyone any idea on what to do? I found something on the web advising me to unpug the power for 30 min. but that didn't work.

HAH! PROOF THAT VISTA IS BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, had to say that. Thing is, so many people complain about Vista whereas I've never seen any reason to, since I've used it myself for almost a year and a half and it's worked perfectly in all that time. Whereas I've heard several bad stories from people about Windows 7.

Anyway, no idea how to solve your problem. I'd recommend calling Microsoft tech support, they are actually extremely good and I've only ever had really good experiences with them. Hope your problem gets sorted soon :).

have you tried other USB ports? the issue could be with the port itself.
I tried different ports in different groups on the mobo. All had the same problem. It seems to be a software malfunction somewhere...

see if you can boot the iPod in disk mode and see if that is recognized still. If not, try another USB cable for this or try simply rebooting (which Im sure youve done)

USB can be tricky sometimes. You might have to look at the wiring of the ports itself- it always possible to have a faulty port.

you have a driver issue.
-go to control panel and open device manager
-in there go under the usb section and try updating your driver
-if it doesn't work still try resetting it by disabling it then enabling
-if it still wont work go to your computers manufacturer web page you should find the drivers there.
-install the drivers and it will work fine.

i had this issue with 7/vista/xp/me/2000/98 on occasions usually after installing something dealing with drivers.

As I said, I also have the problem with my Archos, which I always connect in hdd mode. And I don't think it is a faulty port problem, because this only happens with these two devices. My keyboard and mouse still work fine. I guess checking the wiring anyway wouldn't hurt :D

Hmm...sounds like either the pc hasn't installed the -insert before mentioned devices here- software correctly or your hardware has gone haywire, theres also the probability that its a driver problem. The solution is to contact Microsoft tech support, go to the manufactuer's website and download the new drivers or if you want to really want, buy a new pc. Hope that helps XD

I had a similar problem except it was an external DVD drive on an XP laptop. My Motherboard went before I got round to troubleshooting it though I know the correct drivers were installed.

As to whether these two events are linked, I have no idea, but best to back up the data asap just in case. (It's always a good idea to back up when problems start occurring)

its a easy fix you shouldn't need to call tech support. and you should not need to get a new PC unless it gives you blue screen every time you turn it on or its like 10 years old.

This might be it, but I can't find the USB drivers for the iXtreme X1235
Tried removing the drivers and let windows pick the correct ones, but that didn't work.

Not worried about crashes, everything else works fine. Maybe I'll install Linux to see if the problem continuous to bug me there as well.

ill tried looking on there web page. i noticed there was no U.S.A. page. which explans why i haven't seen one seance the 90s.
then all i can say is try a 3rd party driver or call tech support.
