I haven't seen one of these topics recently, so: what have we learned?

These can be skills, ideas, epiphanies abstract or concrete: the "tips and tricks" section of life. The more bite-sized, the better. I'm not looking for life philosophies unless they're particularly short and witty (I promise you, yours probably isn't).

A few to get started (fair warning: I'm a linguist (syntactician) by trade)

1) The etymological fallacy. Know it. Love it. Live it. Wikipedia it.

2) Lexical semantics is dumb. Leave trying to pin down the meaning of individual words to the professionals. At least some of them realise that they have no idea what they're doing.

3) Twist ties and bag clips are for sissies:

Sealing a bag of Santitas tortilla chips is unnecessary, at least in my house. Big time trigger food, I can eat a pound of them without even realizing it.
