Useless Betrayals In Games

Are there any games where someone important or trustworthy turns out to be a traitor for no good reason?
THe one that comes to mind for me is Modern Warfare 2.

Where near the endgame, General Shepherd goes apeshit and kills the protagonist (AGAIN)and a squad mate, for no real reason other than to be a secret villain.

Well that was more because they had information (unknowingly at the time) and needed to be tied up as they were loose ends, what the basterd should've done was send their sorry asses to Russia or some shit and do the searching for Makarov himself the lazy Fool, but no, your now dead with a knife in your eye and the worlds descending into a war that deserves its own title music sequence, Prick.

If i had to choose someone as betrayer basterd/, it would be YOU, the gamer, you sneaky basterd you.

I'll agree, that plot twist was pretty shit. It surprised me, but I still thought it was utter shite and didn't bring anything special to the plot. I'd have rather seen Ghost/Roach/Soap/Price chasing Makarov at the end, instead of them killing off the MW2 heroes just to keep the originals for the next game.

Oh, and does anybody else see the voice actor of Ghost returning in MW3 to play someone else who has a name conveniently starting with the letter G? [For those of you who didn't grasp it was the same voice actor as Gaz from MW, and believe me, some haven't]

No other betrayals come to mind. Usually because the story writers think very hard about such an event to stop a backlash from fans. At least, most of the time.
