Eg. Morgan Freeman in Batman *more recent films*

Q from the James Bond series, yes they are films but obv multiple games have been released.

and in countless different games there is always the ridiculously smart or witty side hero who helps out.

I liked the Merchant, also I liked Joker from Mass Effect.

I don't understand, if you don't like video game character "Stereotypes" then just don't play games with them in it. Or go and create better characters.
Though don't listen to me, I tend to not judge characters based on whether I've seen people like them before in a game. Just like I don't with real people.
