That was very informative and eye-opening. Though unfortunately for the anti-vax ppl I know, not particularly relevant in capabilities for convincing them otherwise, as they don't seem part of the "jabs cause autism" group, but more of the "big pharma controlled by Bill Gates who wants to control the world and puts microchips and poison in jabs" group. Tho it is nice to see this dude still about and producing educational content either way. Of course he finds safe abode in Texas America with a mansion, of frigging course!

I never knew how the whole anti-vax movement started, but this is even stupider than I thought.

Huh. This story was a lot more interesting than I thought.

I knew beforehand that the anti-vax movement was founded on a study that eventually had to be retracted, an incredibly rare occurrence, which had found a link between autism and vaccines. From this I thought the scenario was that some medical researcher had done research, found a link that could be spurious and submitted the paper with the attached summary "more research is needed", as all papers more or less are, only for people that had a pre-existing fear of jamming needles into their children to grab onto it as something significant. This movement in turn lead to more medical researchers reading the paper and discovering that the research had significant enough holes that the link could not be established and the paper would have to be retracted.

Glad to know what the scenario was: the nowadays ex-doctor behind the paper was a fraud from beginning to end with financial incentives to make people believe his lies.

Anyway, I wonder if any anti-vaxxers would be swayed into dropping their stupid ideas by videos like these. Then again, they would never watch videos like these, cuz something something soy boy, something big pharma, something something global scientific conspiracy.

If I were to ask one person I know right now if they believed in the possibility of bowel disease triggered by vaccines they'd believe it. But then they're in the middle of the mother of all colitis flare-ups, that started within 48h of their first Moderna shot (weekend before Easter), and has been ongoing since. After having had no symptoms of it for almost 20 years.

They have a...complicated medical history though, including having unusual reactions to many drugs (including a bunch of antibiotics triggering seizures and one other drug triggering both hair loss and bouts of mania) and several immune-system related problems. So, they're not indicative of anything for anyone else, ever.
