I got this triggered when thinking of Sasha Grey(lol) in Girlfriend Experience.

My theory is, it's rare to see both. If someone's that concerned about their looks or their own qualities, they probably aren't knowledgeable. Because in order to seek knowledge, you need humility. To know your own limits, and open your mind to other people's theories and truths.

But I'd like to be proven wrong.

Are there any famous people who are vain AND smart? Not pseudo-intellectuals like many in the film industry. People like Stephen Fry, except someone who's known to be hot.

Self-delusion is not only for stupid people...

That's why D&D had both Intelligence and Wisdom as separate stats...

Given that vain is an eccess of pride, I can only imagine that there are a great number of vain intelligent peopole. Wise, perhaps not so much, but that wasn't the question asked.

A Hermit's Cave
In real life: James Watson & perhaps Edward Teller

Fictional: Sherlock Holmes

And I don't think, as traits go, vanity and wisdom have any overlap whatsoever.

I myself feel that I can be vain sometimes...and I like to think I'm quite intelligent, too.

Um...I don't know about vain, but Kate Beckinsale is gorgeous and extremely smart.

Um Brian Cox, maybe. He's not a bad looking guy and pretty smart.

Lord Byron, he was good looking and very smart.

Just looking at a list of people in Mensa, there's a porn star called Asia Carrera and the actress Geena Davis. Whether they're vain or not, I don't know, but they're both reasonably good looking and members of Mensa.

Of course vain people can be smart, you can learn things and possess a sharp mind without being at all humble.

You know, I think self-delusion is something smart people suffer from even more. They're even better at fooling themselves because they can come up with all sorts of elaborate theories about themselves and others. You'd almost forget most of it is probably bollocks.

I just honestly don't believe that vanity and intelligence are on opposing sides of any spectrum. I think it stems from the same perpetuated myth that beauty and intelligence are somehow antithetical.

I'd even say that vanity is one of my vices. But my vanity extends well beyond my body and purdy face to my intelligence.
