I haven't spent Valentine's with a girl since I was back in high school. Something usually comes up with anybody else I've dated, so the whole expectation of romance on this day has been lost to me for well over a decade. For anyone to expect anything today is really pompous, as you are supposed to do what you feel is right for the one you care about, not what they want. This isn't their birthday (unless in which case it is, then you are obligated to get them what they want), so I'd hope that they would be glad you made an effort at all. But I know how materialistic some women can be, as I usually find myself in relationships with those people.
Poetry is kinda corny, but means a lot more when it comes from yourself. If you've got nothing to work from, perhaps you should instead take time to review how you really feel about this girl. If you can't find any inspiration from your own feelings, then there's no point in any of us lying to her for you. If you can't find something romantic to say (regardless of how bad it sounds to yourself), then maybe this isn't the girl for you.
