Valkyrie Profile 2: Worth Playing?

So, I'm a big JRPG fan. (braces for Escapist backlash).

Anyways, I've been looking for a couple more PS2 RPGs, considering that there was a great many fantastic RPGS available for the platform, and a game that caught my eye recently was Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, sequel to the classic Playstation RPG that I never played. Now, considering that I haven't played the original or the PSP remake, I thought I'd ask you folks if Valkyrie Profile 2 is worth playing. Heck, is it even that good of a game? It got good reviews from many websites I frequent, but looking at some footage for it I'm not quite so certain. Help me out?

I have it and enjoyed it. It has small changes to the game play from the original. Battles in an area area rather then one side vs the other. Slightly different puzzle mechanics with Silmeria creating ice. It's plot is removed enough which doesn't impact the first game's story that much. Overall though it's still a Valkyrie Profile game and at least decent, although I'd consider it the weakest out of Valkyrie profile, Covenant of the plume, and Silmeria.

Overall I say get it if you can find it for cheap or average price.

I hated it. The original was far more creative and worthy of stature than the sequel (and the tactics games). They take a beautiful game idea and make it into a bland, same-all same-all generic rpg. You can tell the direction the game heads, you can't give a crap for the main characters, and the item system is a freaking mess.

Unless you find the game in the cheapo bin and 'gotta catch em all', I'd stick with finding the original. Or Persona 4. Or DragonQuest8. Or Grandia 2. Or one of the WildArms games. Or... Well, you get the idea.
