Does this mean Valve will release games like Left 4 Dead on the PS3? Please? Pretty please? With sugar on top?
Doubt they'll re-release L4D2 just for the PS3, but they might. Delayed re-releases have happened before... Bioshock and Mass Effect 2...

Then again, if a new one is coming out soon, don't see why they won't just make that multiplatform.
I'd be happy with Left 4 Dead 3 on the PS3 even if we miss out on the first two. Gotta admit that with Steam on the PS3, it's hard for them to argue not releasing it on the PS3.
I was kinda thinking the ability to download Team Fortress 2 onto PS3 for free. I'd rather buy L4D in PC than for PS3 in full retail price.

Unrelated and possibly stupid question but why do so many articles [do this], it seems entirely unnecessary.

[These brackets] signify that the enclosed segment of the quote has been modified to make sense within the article. So the author of the article is informing you that those weren't the speakers original words.

I think its to give more context to the quote. I think the writer puts that, and it isn't actually said by whoever is quoted.

Pretty good move by Sony IMO, and I think Microsoft should follow though.

The PS3 will now surpass the 360 in popularity. Though they'll need to man the battlements from the oncoming horde of PC elitists decrying this as heresy. Hold fast console troopers and Con-comp rebel forces. Weather this storm.

Delay your main franchise over and over again while buying up the rights of other peoples work?

Pretty sure when he says "other developers," he's meaning pretty much Microsoft.
XBL is......nice. But there's no reason they can't open up the online service more. No reason, except their....except, uh.....except....well....I guess I don't have an exception.

They need to just do it already!!!! Is there anything about it that doesn't make sense? I wouldn't even care if Steam access came only with a Gold sub (lord knows I'm paying for it one way or the other). They just need to do it, one way or another.

Yeah, that would be nice, too. There are a lot of good Valve games I would like to see come to the PS3. I'm just hoping we see something like that.

I don't like when Valve/Newell says something that sounds grand but amounts to either 'I'm glad our company is doing well' or 'I wish our company would do even better', which is pretty much all they've been saying of late, but he has a point in here. I'm tired of seeing complaints on how Microsoft handles Live. Since they're the one charging for the service they should pay more attention to stuff like that.

Ok, when I think of Sony, and PSN, Freedom and flexibility are about the last two words that spring to mind.

And yes, of course valve likes seeing others push Digital distribution. Its helping to ensure digital distribution is omnipresent and making it more ubiquitous.

Gabe Newell has praised Sony's online strategy for the PS3, which allows third parties a lot more freedom and flexibility to provide content and services. Newell says that Valve will make sure that Sony benefits from this flexibility, and thinks that other developers should follow suit.
How about throwing a glance or two at a mirror and following that suit as a publisher themselves? Games dropping off Steam cause of their policies doesn't sound like good business practice.

[small][small]So, I wonder, how long before I get quoted by a Valve fanboi telling me how EA's greedy with Origin?[/small][/small]

Could a STEAM GUI on the PS3 be the answer to our prays for cross game chat?

WE DEMAND A PS3 STEAM GUI, FAT MAN!

Why has nobody noticed rockstar doing this with GTA V? I swear to god it's a direct parallel. The people at GTAforums have been driven nuts by this. They now latch on to any idiot who says he or she has a good theory on the location or on the release date or announcement date for that matter. Any idiot could walk in there, claim to have info, release a cryptic pic, and end up with a 490 (!) page topic. Help us!

Can Steam actually be used for anything other than playing Portal 2 on the PS3? I don't understand exactly what you can do with the service.
At the moment, as far as I know, no. But don't forget that all the new Valve games will be using it - CS:GO, HL3 etc. Maybe even some third-party developers will jump on it.
As for the service, it provides THE CLOUD, allowing you to store your saves on Valve's servers, and cross-platform gameplay, PS3-PC-MAC, allows you to chat with your PS3-PC-MAC friends. That's pretty much it for now.
the PS3 will never see HL3. Now the PS5 on the other hand....

I'm curious:

Does anyone else merely see the words "Fuck you, EA" instead of an article about Sony doing something that makes both Them and valve fist loads of money?

Just checking.
