Looks like CSS with a texture update, a new HUD and a couple new maps. Guess who's not going to waste money on this :p

More maps? Everyone will play de_dust and de_dust2 exclusively anyway.

Come on, tell me it's not true!
And the one guy who votes for cs_office gets booted off the server.

True story, if I want someone booted, I never type votekick. It just doesn't work..
I'm a terrible person.

I like how it looks in this trailer, but one slight thing worries me.
Why is there no shotgun tab in the "buy guns" wheel? We see the familiar pistols, HMG (hopefully offering more than one now), SMG, and rifles, but no shotguns.

Hopefully this is just an early build thing and not a sign of removing a fun gun choice.

Wow, this... looks like shit, actually. For all the visual updating, the game still looks outdated, not to mention that no-one has even touched the aesthetic issues. I'm not interested in generic online shooter #1358 just because it has the valve logo stamped on it.

Honestly, they could've done a far better job with the trailer.

I expect gameplay similar to CS/CS:S, since CS veterans have been giving positive feedback that is a good sign. Graphically... I don't know it just doesn't look good enough, it looks like it would have done had they made the game in 2007 and released it with the OB, not sure why they didn't go with the lighting system used in Alien Swarm and Portal 2 as it's far superior to static lights only which is what it looks like they are using, I know that you need a good framerate for a game like CS/CS:S but Portal 2 handled the lighting system extremely well and it ran great on a wide variety of systems.

Granted, the game is still a year away from release, hopefully they'll improve on it.

GOD FUCKING DAMNIT!

OT: This seems cool, but cross platform gaming has never really worked, it was cool with shadowrun, but they shut it down.

I hope that this was made in the source engine, so mah game/complete mod can have improved graphics... by leaching off of it...

This really looks like an interesting buy. I wonder if it'll make a dent in the BF3 and MW3 sales, what with all of the fanboys and whatnot.

But I hope this does do well, if only to provide a bit more competition in this stagnating FPS market.

The only PC gamers who are going to use the cross platform are people who want to play with their friends and noobs who want an advantage while playing. Experienced PC players are just going to use dedicated servers as they always have.

I dunno. CS:GO reads like a content patch with graphical overhaul. That overhaul aside, imagine how many TF2 sequels Valve would've pumped out by now if the difference between TFX and TFX+1 had always been as small as between CSS and CS:GO.

I understand CS:GO is a tactical move that, together with DOTA2, is supposed to get Valve into the competitive business, hence all the pubs VS pros TF2 tourneys, the DOTA2 tournament and how closely Valve works with pros on CS:GO, but no matter how I look at it, I don't see enough to justify a whole new game. Graphics never were what mattered in CS anyway from what I can tell.

Played the hell out of it when I got it, but today I have to say it's just a run-of-the-mill FPS by comparison. I dunno why Valve is tackling CoD and Battlefield with this, but they may have a chance if they stylize here and there and take it to the arcade side of the "arcade VS simulator" spectrum, because CoD and BF are already competing about the ""realism"".
Doesn't look like they do that if you can trust a trailer tho.

Actually kinda confusing for a little Valve fanboy that digs through the delicious background info of the Dev's Commentary and now doesn't find DOTA2 or CS:GO appealing, haha.

I have one nice information for you:
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is NOT a sequel. It's a remake. "Counter-Strike: Source is already a remake! Why another one?", you might ask yourself. Well, Counter-Strike: Source is no remake either, it's a port from goldsrc to Source. Just like Half-Life -> Half-Life: Source. The only difference is that Half-Life: Source has almost no updated content, as it was only there to demonstrate how easy it is to port a game from goldsrc to Source.
I hope that this clears the situation up a bit.
Thanks.
Doesn't change a thing for me.

I never even explicitly called it a sequel, I just said it's another game in the franchise. That said, I most definitely wouldn't call it a simple remake either seeing how Valve is actively discussing changes with eSport players. With that intent, you can't say they aim on making this just a remake.

Not that I think Valve actually had "remake" or "sequel" in mind. They just wanted to make CS fit for eSport to go along with DOTA2 and didn't care about classification nonsense.

Cross-Platform gaming just isn't going to work. Any console players are going to get absolutely destroyed by all PC players. It's as simple as that.
That's what XBOX players said about PS3 players, my 13 year old brother got an XBOX few weeks back and is currently crushing them.
And besides, the two communities play differently, i find that us PS3 players are a twitchy bunch and will shoot at anything that looks like it's going to move. XBOX players are pretty ballsy, sometimes to a fault, but i don't play PC, so no comment there.

And besides, humans adapt to survive, in most everything they do.

OP: Looks good i suppose, haven't ever played any of the others.
But what's stopping XBOX getting cross-platform play?
Just interested.

Referring to the Xbox vs PS3, they're still using controllers, it's possible that your brother is just better at the game than the PS3 players.

However, when a mouse & keyboard come into play, it doesn't matter if you're playing on a Xbox or PS3, the Mouse has a massive advantage over controllers, considering there's no limit on how sensivitive the mouse can be. With a controllers you can only push the stick so far, and will only move as fast as the sensitivity level will set it. However with a mouse, it'll move as fast as the hand can move it, and there are mice that allow for higher DPI so it just gives the mouse a huge advantage over a controller. So especially in scenarios where are are multiple enemies on screen, the Mouse is just going to dominate. So in my opinion, Cross-Play will make it extremely unfair for consoles.

Only recently playing CS:S (Thankyou steam summer sales ^_^) and falling in love with it I am now looking forward to it, This'll be the best competitor to CoD on the console front (as for PC i'm pretty sure it'll dominate as usual xD)
