Valve Pumps $25 Million Into Left 4 Dead 2 Ad Campaign

So basically they are going to spend 25 million dollars convincing the people who were already going to buy their game to buy their game?

If they wanted to waste cash they could have just given me half that and spent the other half on creating actual zombies for the actual new orleans region.

As it stands this is like spending 50 million dollars to advertise porn to teenage boys...they already know they want it...you are just wasting your money on trying to convince the few folks left over that aren't going to get it.

I'll be buying an actual sequel, Dead Rising 2. Where they actually added a lot of content, and are using new textures and features. Besides Left 4 Dead 2 doesn't have a moose head for weapon, can you honestly say it's as awesome? I think not.
You've played Left 4 Dead 2 already and know all about the content, textures and features? Bloody hell you lucky sod!

Oh what's that? You've not?

Interesting...
How clever taking a stab at me like that, you really got me there. Seriously, they haven't added enough for it to be a sequel, it's the same game with a sprinkling of content that was meant for the first one.
And you know this how? In fact, how can you even say something so blatantly false months after we've already been told about and in some cases (the lucky bastards) been shown just how much new content has been put into L4D2? In fact, aside from the making weapons part and the 6000 zombies onscreen at once, it has everything Dead Rising 2 has: new hero(es) new weapons, and I'm pretty sure you can't copy-paste a Pennsylvania-based location and say "oh this is New Orleans now", so new Textures, new enemies, new level design concepts (branching paths), new campaign-specific enemies. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Seriously, you haven't thought this position through pretty well. This isn't May anymore where you can just say something outlandish and get 40,000 morons to follow you blindly.

And just to be fair, I'll say something equally outlandish: "Las Vegas has been done to death in games, Dead Rising 2 is only adding zombies to it so why should I be excited?"

EDIT: And why did this argument start on a thread about Valve's advertising campaign, of all places?

I find it hard to believe it will be their best selling game considering how well the orange box/portal did.

Look at Dead Rising 2, new area, new hero, new weapons, you can now MAKE weapons, they got 6k zombies on the screen now, new moves new everything.

If you want to buy it by all means, I'm not going to mock you for it. But I'm going to spend my money on something I'll have more fun with.
Dead Rising 2 features blond Frank, a casino that's clearly just the mall, weapons that should have been released in DLC, and moves that should have come with the original. Dead Rising 2 is destroying the replayability of Dead Rising 1.

You see what I did there?

I didn't start any argument I just said I'm not interested in L4D2 and would rather get Dead Rising 2 and stated my opinion on it.

Look, preach to me all you want, I'm not buying Left 4 Dead 2, there's not enough new content for me to want to spend 50 bucks on it. I've seen the videos, there's nothing wildly new about it, Valve put out the first one which felt very unfinished but they promised all sorts of content so with that demo and the promise of new content I bought it and now they're putting out a sequel with some modified stuff. Look real close at L4D one, you'll see a lot of stuff from HL2 that's been modified which is fine, but if you're going to make a sequel, I expect more effort should be put into that. The videos show more than enough to me, I am going to play the demo but after all the videos I've seen I'm not impressed with enough that's different/added.

To end this, this is what I personally feel about the game, if you feel it's enough content then go right ahead and buy it there's nothing wrong with that. I am not calling you wrong for enjoying the game or wanting it, but I'm not going to let anyone tell me I'm wrong for what I think, this is my opinion of the game. If you don't like my opinion then I'm sorry to hear that, I have nothing against valve but I noticed a lot of people here are avid fans so I'm sorry if I offended you but I'm not going to censor my opinion :).

I'll be sure to take anything you say seriously since you've managed to mock my opinion and do nothing else. I don't think they added enough, if you feel that they did, then go and buy it and enjoy it, nothing wrong with that. But I think it's okay if I don't care to buy it and to have an opinion of my own. I am not saying don't buy the game, I'm saying I wont, if anyone has a problem with that you might need your head checked because it doesn't effect you as far as I can tell.

Personally I would have rather seen the effort go into Half Life 2: Ep 3 or even Left 4 Dead1 but whatever the case they made a sequel. I've just got little interest in it. Though I'm confused why they're spending 25mil in marketing if their game is already going bonkers with preorders.

You seem to think your opinion is not up for ridicule when it is clearly ignorant.

And there lies your problem.

I don't care much for what you have to say. You are, however, incorrect when you insinuate that L4D2 is just L4D1 when one could apply the same logic to the game you listed. Your opinion is worthless when all you have is ideology and a chip on your shoulder.

Now I know you didn't read a damn thing I wrote, I said;

So next time you want to mock someone how about you read their post. Because I don't care what you have to say, go buy the game, go right ahead I told you I don't care, it's your money and it doesn't effect me. However if I say I don't care to buy it and I don't think they added enough it's my right to, so how about you learn to shrug your shoulders to someones opinion instead of mocking me. :)

I didn't aim to start a fight, I just felt like sharing my opinion on the game, I have no idea why this offended anyone, seriously I really don't care to fight about a game.

It's a damn fair point. You can't compare games on expectations.

Also, I couldn't help but notice that you've been put on Probation for Homosexuality. More homophobic websites.

I thought it was funny.

Valve influenced by EA much?
And spending money to advertise their game is bad how...?

OT: Cool beans for them I guess. I'm not among those who pre-ordered but I'll most likely pick the game up on launch day.
BECAUSE ITS CAPITALISM RAWR!!!!1

On topic: Unfortunately, while I own most Valve games, this will be the one I won't be buying. And I'm not even a boycotter. I just don't see the need to buy it, when it's likely not much different than L4D.

And after spending some of the worst money I've ever spent on Crash Course, it'll likely be a long time before I buy another L4D product from them.

And this is when I'll be sitting on the couch with my friends and a commercial for L4D2 will come on. I'll go, "See? See?! Southerners have an automatic +5 in zombie survival! Now you have to let me show you how to use a cast-iron skillet!"

And then there will be cornbread.

To think, that this is without the Australian market... (it is still banned right? i thought i would have known if it hasn't) Not like we would get any of that marketing anyway, though...

Y_Y *dies inside* WHY MUST MY COUNTRY BE SO BACKWARDS AS TO BAN SUCH BEAUTY!?

I'm going to be very desperate to buy this game. I wonder if I can get a mate to import it. Are games region-coded?

Is that a lot of money for this type of thing?
I mean yeah it's a lot of money, but is it above or below the norm?

WHAT?!

$25 million?!

What about Episode 3?! 1 million dollars would be enough to hire few additional people so we could have this game by the end of this era.

What about Tf2? There like 6 people working on the updates! 1 animator on the team that I know for sure.

What about everything else?! Wasn't L4D1 just a cry for money and wasn't L4D2 supposed to be the "real deal"? So they made more than 25 million? What gives?

So that's where L4D's updates went to!

There is still absolutely no part of this that makes me want to buy L4D2, or future Valve products for that matter. It really is just one ball kicking decision after another.
