13,000 lines of dialogue... the voice actors must be cursing Valve right now with their sore throats and broken voices. I'll bet they weren't expecting to do THIS much talking for such a short game!
All in all, it's about four times as long as the first portal, so it makes sense.

Also, they really should bring in Yahtzee to voice a Personality Sphere...

Heh, goes to show how dedicated Valve is with this game. Now, let's hope that all the dialogue will be utilized well... And how, this game will stand against its predecessor.

Crap, the subtlety of the story was the best thing about it in Portal 1, it told the story through setting and gameplay, not dialogue.
my guess is it will probably have that too, but they cant rely on it as the game is now full length.
correct me if i'm wrong, but environmental storytelling only works in snippets like left 4 dead and the orig portal, as you play the game longer you stop noticing the environment as you complete objectives, thus you lose much of the story.

as long as its not valve's blue's clues encouragement dialogue (eg half life 2) ill be happy

That... is a lot of lines. Hope a certain someone got paid a very large amount of money for the sore throat they're sure to be sporting right now.

One of the reasons Portal [http://www.amazon.com/Portal-2-Pc/dp/B002I0JIQW]...
Or that fact that it's a Valve game. Ohh, casual Valve hate.

...And Dragon Age and SW:ToR is sitting on their Dialogue throne (While sporting a snazzy matching pair of "King" and "Prince" tiaras) laughing at the peasants who thought GTA had a lot of talking.

I'm still on the line about Portal 2; does anyone think that this game will look past the refreshingly original and quirky gameplay, to create a truly diverse, interesting and most importantly fun experience throughout? I have a horrible feeling that what I loved about Portal was how different it was from other games; is more of the (similar) same thing innovative enough to create an experience as good as Portal did?
Valve is one of those types of companies that can do it. Half-life and Half-life 2 are pretty different. I think it can be done.
I hope for my wallet's sake that you're right. Because this is one of those games that I, (and probably a few hundred thousand other gamers) have preordered.

Hopefully this means we'll get cameos from all the TF2 and Half-life characters.

I want my Heavy-shaped AI core!

I'm alittle hesistant to call this good. I liked that Portal gave you game and then shut up for you to play it. I hope they are doing whatever it is with some resraint.

That's quite an amazing amount of dialogue given the nature of the game. Will these new characters come face to face with Chel?

In other news Minecraft + Portal = Internet exploding. (http://bit.ly/h9ZQTz)

Shame we have to wait for April for Portal 2 though, still it'll be worth the wait!

I won't wait for three years before playing Portal 2 as I did with the original either... Whoops.

Surprising amount of dialogue if a game like GTA only had 80,000 lines, cool to see Valve do a story based single player game with a talking protagonist this time around.(Sorry if they already have and I'm unaware)
Well, we don't really have a talking protagonist in this, unless you count the Coop bots. Single player still follows Chell, and $10 says she's still silent.

I bet a lot of this will be spoken in co op, considering that they've been hyping this portion of the game for quite a while now.

I hope most of that dialogue is for GlaDOS and the turrets, because they were cool. Wheatley annoys the hell out of me.
