Wrong. I had tons of respect for Gabe and what he and his company have done for the industry. Hell Valve making TF2 granted him and every higher up in Valve near infinite respect and love for me.
That is until now. And every male over the age of 4 who likes that show loses any respect they have from me if they had any @ all to begin with.

That show is a cancer on the internet. Everywhere I turn someone on some forum I'm on is shoving images of that show down my throat. I am sick of that shit being strewn all over the net. I just wish this damn fad would end soon. It makes all he damn Chuck Norris jokes, Spiderman images, and other overused memes tolerable by comparison which is sad considering most of those overused memes (note most) are crap as well and to make them seem good by comparison makes my eyes bleed.

Captcha = oh brother. Hmmmm seems oddly appropriate Captcha. I agree.
Welcome to the internet, you must be new here. If anyone tells you they have the ability to shove an image down your throat through your monitor, they're lying. If someone posts something you don't like, you don't have to read it, or even visit that site at all.

It's a bit hard to miss your avatar, for example.

That's the point he's getting at, of course you're having difficulty understanding it as you're a fan thus the almost constant bombardment doesn't irritate you.

I don't particularly enjoy being insulted on the basis that I have a certain pastime, hence I usually will often stay away from brony threads on the escapist, because that's what usually ends up happening.
I don't enjoy it, I avoid it. Simple as that.
In rare cases I do want to discuss/argue about the merits of people who watch mlp(like right now) and I know exactly where I can find people who say that anyone over 4 who watches mlp doesn't deserve a shred of their respect regardless of what else they've done in their lives.

And people who post things of inflammatory nature don't bother me?

not saying you are, but i have plenty of images that annoy/frustrate/disgust/offend me, but you don't see me going around saying that "this and that are the scourge of the internet/society/whatever, we should oppose it!" because, guess what, i believe people have a right to their opinion, and unless they are actually harming someone, i have this amazing ability called "thick skin" which allows me to shrug those sorts of things off.

I frankly am disgusted that this man enjoys something made for entertainment. Seriously? I mean that surely means he does things in his spare time...

:p I've never really got the Brony hate.

You fail to see the true root of the problem... it implies that Gabe HAS spare time, and doesn't spend every waking moment trolling the Half-Life community with promises of Half-Life 3, which is quite frankly a disgrace.

To be blatantly honest, I just like to make fun of the fan base because I mean, the more you look into the MLP fan base the more things you find to make fun of like how many people freaked out over something one of the voice actors did over their twitter feed or the name of some background character.

Learn to laugh at yourselves already as the whole fan base is a big joke, can't you see that?

(To be fair, I pretty much see almost every fan base like this, even the fan bases of things I like)

All I see here is yeah, he sometimes watches MLP in his spare time like... So? I don't care as long as he doesn't start making a MLP reference in ever other thing he does.

That's great, but what happens when MLP is brought into nearly every other thread on this website in one form or another? Sure, you can avoid the blatantly obvious MLP threads (such as this one) but what is he supposed to do when people bring in brony memes and crappy pony youtube vids into completely irrelevant topics? Just as you're entitled to speak in favour, he is entitled to speak against it.

As an aside, what are the merits of people who watch MLP as opposed to those who don't? What inherent quality do they have?

That's what most do, but this is the internet where it's easy (not to mention occasionally fun) to overdo things with a nice slice of hyperbole. I see plenty of bronies go around attempting to convert others to the Way of the Hoof, what you are seeing from the likes of "bronies should burn" people is the equal and opposite reaction.

Okay. Stop the planet; I want to get off.
Can't, sorry. You'll just have to jump.

OT...

1. Big fucking deal if he does. I don't know anything about his personal life, but if he ever has to endure children's television for a child or grandchild or whatever, MLP is like a goddamn serene oasis in a desert of vapid, corny, awful bullshit. Whenever I have to babysit my cousin, I pull it up on YouTube and we watch it together.
About the same as Avatar then, but for younger children. Ok, now I understand it more.

I'm not saying he isn't entitled to speak against it, he's even entitled to insult people over it, but he is not entitled to not be subjected to it if he does nothing to avoid it. Obviously it's impossible to completely avoid both pony images where they are irrelevant and pony hate where it is irrelevant, but if it is just a single occurrence, it is easier to ignore it than to fight it, and often ignoring it works better in terms of fighting it. If he sees a pony thread and thinks to himself "I don't want to see this" then the obvious solution is to not look at it, rather than click the link and start arguing and insulting people.

There is no global merit that all people who watch mlp share, but each person has done something other than watching ponies, and usually those things tell you more about the person than "watches ponies" does. To be a bit more on-topic, the fact that Gabe created Valve along with all of the great games they made and the Steam platform, speaks volumes about him, whereas you would never know that from a conversation that goes like:
"Hey, have you heard of this Gabe Newell guy?"
"No, what about him?"
"He watches ponies."

I think we need to make a distinction here: Is he a brony... or does he simply watch and enjoy MLP? I mean he said it but it doesn't necessarily mean he is actually part of the Brony community.
Hope not. Bronies aren't very respectable to me. It's respectable to enjoy a show like that and not care what anyone thinks because your free to like what you like but it's ridiculous that people get so obsessed over that show. I watched five episodes when I was bored, and while I will admit it wasn't bad, I didn't find it to be particularly good either. Meanwhile, a show on the same channel, Transformers: Prime, continues to be over-looked. I'm assuming this is for the same reason War for Cybertron is over-looked: "Transformers are stupid and nerdy" or "hurr-dur I dun like the michael bay movies and am going to judge the entire franchise by them" Transformers: Prime is extremely well written and is one of the few tv-shows that genuinely got me excited or got me to laugh several times. The character design is excellent with characters you'll both love and hate, with the only flaws for me being the crappy visual style and the three human teen characters. Particularly Miko. They really should get rid of that character.

Anyway, I'm done with my rant. Please continue all of you.

Does it matter?

I'll admit that the rage is pretty spectacular.

There's people who watch the show, Gabe, and then there are the utterly depraved subspecies of furry, bronies. There's a difference.

I am not a fan. The so-called "constant bombardment" does not irritate me.

I'll never really understand why it does anyone else.

This could well be the reason Episode 3 has been delayed for so long...but....strangely...I think I'm okay with this.
