Valve's Gabe Newell Taking Questions on Reddit Today - Update

At 4:00 PM EST on 3/3, you can ask Valve's fearless leader anything.

Update: One hour later, it seems the AMA is a no-go. It appears that Newell didn't follow the proper format and Reddit appears to be deleting all questions. Now we'll never find out when Half-Life 3 is coming out!

Original story: Gabe Newell, co-founder of the Valve Corporation, is doing an Ask Me Anything on Reddit in just a few minutes. That's 4:00 PM EST, 1:00 PM Pacific time for you West Coasters.

It's probably just a coincidence that today's date is 3/3, right?

We'll update this post if any news should happen to break during the AMA. You can tune in here [http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1zg3b8/gabe_newell_ama_100_pm_pst/].

20-14=6, which is 3+3.

Also: as opposed to, like, Nascar's Gabe Newell or QOTSA drums standin Gabe Newell?

He's got a "No questions about Half-Life 3" disclaimer, right? I just know there's gonna be floods of trolls and legitimately hopeful fanbois wanting to ask about that.

I just want someone to ask him why Valve is the only digital distribution platform that has no refund policy. Its a gigantic issue that they seem perfectly content to just let be.

There's more then one question? :)
Well you have to ask about HL2: Episode 3 as well as Half Life 3.

Complete coincidence, there's only two threes. Now if he held it at 3:33PM...

It is now 1:25 pm, and it would seem that the AMA has not begun, and a whole bunch of comments are deleted. I'm confused.

P.S. Thanks

P.P.S. It's probably not related to an outdated verification photo; he has verified himself on this account in the past.

It looks like Mr. Newell set the ama up wrong as the moderators shut down the whole thing and gave him a guide on how to set one up. Didn't he do this before, There was no issue then was there?

03/03 ?

HL3 confirmed.

On a more serious note, I have no idea what I'd ask him.

That was Gabenbot. He scouts ahead to see if the action is lucrative. Unfortunately, Gabenbot doesn't suffer from technological/logistical errors. That means this is the REAL Gaben.

Oh my god that means he's here to confirm Half-Life 3. He got out of the locked office door.

OH GOD
HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIR

Loosely related: My browser crashed 3 times trying to write this post. Coincidence?

So basically Reddit is a being a piece of crap and the mods there are throwing a shitfit because one of the biggest names in the entire games industry didn't format correctly.

I'm so surprised right now. See this? This is my surprised face. Because I'm surprised.

Reddit is not all that bad. It's that one mod that's throwing a shitfit.

Funny thing is, this mod has done this before to other AMAs, and thus holds the most downvoted comment in Reddit history.

You'd almost think Reddit was a great big pile of over-entitled assholes who don't know the meaning of community relations. Oh well, back to their important work defending jailbait and revenge porn boards i suppose.
Have you actually been there yet? I have, and it's not that bad. I even got some science questions answered there.

So wait...

There's more to an AMA than:
> User asks a question
> AMA starter answers the question?

I'm quite confused here. Is this Reddit mod just looking to be as big a dick as possible or did Newell breach some great law of the land that must never be broken lest the world come to an end?

Whichever the case, this is just stupid. The hell's wrong with you, Reddit?

This is made more poignant by your avatar; or more to the point Connery's expressions in that scene. Just sayin'.

-edit-
It seems that Reddit requires AMAs to be done in two fashions:

1: Unannounced

2: Scheduled with the mods in advance
Since Newell said he'd do an AMA some weeks ago if the donations for the charity hit a certain amount the mods are counting that as a premeditated AMA announcement and therefore consider it to not be "unannounced" nor pre-scheduled.

So I was right. This whole debacle is basically just Reddit mods doing a bit of dick waving.

Fantastic...

Uplay doesn't have an official refund policy for digital games either, the best they offer is the same "maybe" for infamously broken and buggy games you get from Steam.

True fact. I didn't actually know uplay was a digital distribution platform.

Correction! One of the two digital distribution platforms that doesnt give refunds.

Wow....that is some shit. He should just come do an AMA on the escapist. I'm fairly certain nobody will be booting him out of here because he didn't follow some guidelines.

For the record, I've never been to reddit.

It's easy enough to overlook considering Ubisoft sell digital games on both Steam and Origin as well, Uplay is also physical goods online store too.
