I have never in my entire lifetime been so embarrassed to be a Canadian attached to a particular city. And I thought the "Rivers of vomit and urine" era of the Olympics last year was the worst low:

You do realize the whole riot was started and perpetuated by people who went downtown specifically to cause a riot no matter what the outcome of the game was right?

Oh and here's another thing I pulled off wikipedia since that's what you seem to be good at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World%27s_most_livable_cities

I'm a Vancouverite and proud of it. No, I'm not happy about what happened but I'll be damned if I let you speak ill of my city so ignorantly.

Where are you from?

turns out, most of the people actually involved/arrested, were from surrey, so that makes alot more sense :p

if we'd won, proly mass celebration in the streets, but yeah, not suprised at the riot, i mean, same thing happened in '94, we lost to new york, we rioted.

hell, i went down to to watch the game (from whiterock) was watching from the plaza, then headed to a friend of a friends house to watch the last of the game, we could hear the riot going on, had to walk past it to get home, i thought it was kinda funny actually, we riot cuz we lost? srsly? lawlz, way to lose guys :p

tbh, can't entirely rule out boston woulden't have had some shit happen if they'd lost :p

It wasn't the people of Vancouver at fault. It was those douchebag rioters. And the hipsters who stood around and took pictures to put on thier Facebooks to say they were there instead of stopping those Bastards from wrecking thier city.

The real people of Vancouver have to pick up all the pieces left behind. They shouldn't be embarresed. They should be angry that this happened, and proud that they care enough about thier city to clean it up themselves.

Not not at all, people do not riot because of a hockey game. The people who started it, where there to fight on purpose. One guy is seen on a video pulling a crowbar out of a bag to smash a car. An average hockey fan will not just happen to have a crowbar in his bag. People were out to cause trouble

While the media (though they don't seem to intend to) definitely paints a far different picture, as others have pointed out, the small handful of people who incited the riot were there with that sole purpose. The outcome of Game 7 really didn't matter to them, they simply went to cause trouble (and, of those arrested, most were also involved in previous issues such as the 2010 Olympics and '94 Stanley Cup finals fiascoes). Sadly, it stirred up a mob mentality, and the situation simply escalated.

That said, it still does reflect poorly on the city and our country, and is a bit embarrassing. It's honestly more of an embarrassment to be associated (by being Canadian) with the people who did nothing, though. Those who went to start the pandemonium...well, there's assholes everywhere.
